Turbo vs GT2?
Haven't checked 996 GT2's for sale in awhile, but it's usually less than 5 at any given time. Some low mileage stock ones are 100k+. If you want to mod and/or daily drive then TT is probably better choice. I have actually done the exact opposite, lol, but have never regretted going with the widow maker.
The "widow maker" name actually was originated with the 993 GT2 which was a far more dangerous car than the 996. The 996 GT2 is far safer than any of the 930 turbos. I have always thought the name was earned by people who had no business in a sports car in the first place. And I think people put a lot of faith in the minute amount of front wheel torque our cars put out. I converted my car to RWD and I can say that honestly that front differential hogs more driveline drag and weight than it actually puts out. I noticed minimal traction issues going RWD. I think the new turbos have a much more effective AWD system.
I grew up driving my dad's '84 930 since I was 16 until last year when he sold it, I think 930's undeservingly have the widow-maker status, I found it very confident to drive hard, but will bite harder if driver skill is low...LSD diff. plays a big role in stability though.
I am biased but IMHO at current prices, the GT2's are better value if going for 'higher' performance. My reasoning: LSD diff/steel synchro's, bigger brakes(some TT's), big brake ducts, lighter(no sun roof, undercoat), front bumper/rear decklid, better front suspension geometry, adjustable front control arms, adjustable sway bars, height adjustable coilovers, standard X50 power bits, 'proper' clutch hydraulics, wider wheels etc...

If you lift off the throttle while going too fast into a turn with the TT, PSM will kick in to help you. You do that in a GT2 and that is an expensive lesson learned LOL
I guess they don't give Geckos all the right look up tables before writting a policy
having had the same thing happen to me, i was happiliy surprised to see my reg say "carerra" and not "turbo" so i always thought i was getting over by a few sheckles.
turns out it's their designation for any pcar with the 3.6 is "carerra".. but they DO "pay off" as they would a turbo. trust me on that one

in other news my 96t is so freakin old, my new "15" reg was 279.00!! i think my first one in 08 was something over $600.00 per annum plus luxury (
) tax!i am finding daily what "widowmaker" means relative to the gt2. i am able to get sideways by firmly pressing the gas pedal now with the combination of rwd and and lsd.
on 45 mph speed limit in twisting/turning canyons, 500+/- rwhp is NO joke in this car
one had better "know" and "watch" their sh*t. lol
