Exhaust system recommendations

My most recent challenge is we found a cat to have failed in my Evolution Motorsports GT 660 tuned 2001 996TT. What does the list recommend for a replacement exhaust system?
As I drive the car every day, and maybe ten days per year on the track quieter is better.

Is using a stock exhaust system an option, or is it too restrictive for the 1.4 bar boost I am running?

Evo uses our exhausts on a lot of their systems. Which system is on it now? We have a few different options as far as exhaust setups for your 996tt I can get you set up with!

I believe the current exhaust system is Europipe, most likely supplied by EvoMS back in 2001 or so.
I attach a picture of the damaged and one of the good cat for your pleasure...

The stock exhaust is not an option for making power at that level.
Also Evo first used Milltek exhausts on there kits way back when before they changed to others like Fabspeed..

I'm really happy with Marski's 911tuning x design system I just installed! Hardly any drone at all. Awesome quality and sounds fantastic!

Undercover Tuning (forum sponsor) can build you something custom in an x-pipe design to meet your needs. The materials and weld quality is top tier. 911Tuning is also highly recommended. Everyone has their favorites, I'd be worth shooting both of them a PM to see what they can do.

Some combination of resonators/mufflers/hi-flow cats should be good for you.

Definitely. The cats are too restrictive by themselves never mind the rest of the exhaust, though that can be fixed by removing some baffles or doing the drill-it-out mod (can't remember the normal forum name for it, is it the Gundo hack?).

As for what exhaust to go with, why not just weld in a new cat to your existing system? Any decent custom exhaust shop should be able to do that for about a quarter the price or less of a new exhaust.

I think it was the TJW mod...?

The drone is the biggest thing I worry about. I had a 2000 Vette with Borla Stinger exhaust, and damn did that thing drone. Gave me a headache I ended up trading that Vette for the Turbo, which I'm very happy I did! You don't think the 911tuning exhaust is too droning or loud for everyday driving? Just curious because I'm "this close" to going for one...

The exhaust has an awesome sound to it! My old Fabspeed style droned so bad my wife didn't want to ride in the car! Now she turns down the radio to listen to it! Funny thing, it's not even loud enough for her to hear me pulling into garage where as before she could hear me coming down the road! However, it will "talk" to ya when you mash the go pedal! I love hearing the "crackle" when I start it up cold and when you let off the gas and back on quickly. It's a great system!
