I must be missing something, they consider ics part of emissions in Ca and they get checked= doesn't surprise me if they do.

BILLZ260 is infamous around these parts
I don't understand why theses would make much if any difference to emissions other than a benefit. Wouldn't the cooler air aide combustion? Or is the computer going to add more fuel and cause more emissions?

Aside from that, how are they going to check them? They are almost 100% hidden, how invasive are those checks in Cali?

good point, not THAT intrusive. but they're mostly into looking up your rear, and less so your front. good point but a gamble of sorts given the inherent difficulties of swapping them out. again, decats take twenty minutes.

I'm just shocked with all the collapse occurring in Kali ( as goes kali so goes the US it is said lol ) that they would give a flying duck about some intercoolers.

hey, that's *progressives* for ya. ( kidding )

If that object is the hottest thing in the area of concern, otherwise, your black body emitter just became a black body absorber. With a 1000 degree radiation source (turbine housing) sitting 6-9 inches from your 150 degree intercooler inlet tank, its the last metal object I would want painted or coated black. Core and outlet tank? ...probably no harm there. Just food for thought.

I'm not disputing the effects of dark colors and radiation, but radiators and intercooler although similar have slightly different ways to cool.
Radiators gets its name from how it dissipates heat.
Intercoolers need air to draw the heat away and adding even a thin layer of insulation via paint or any other coating negates that....
If these are anodized it's no different than normal corrosion is it? I wouldn't discount them for being black <shrug> I'd argue that intercoolers are radiators for air, try not having airflow over a radiator and see what happens (it overheats). I've seen this video too BTW

As for the turbos - mine have air space (great insulator) and a heat shield between them I believe. I'm not going to paint mine but if they came anodized black I'd be fine with it. One of the ways that the uber aerospace coolers work better is an emissive coating if memory serves - no? <shrug>

It's a contentious issue... https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/commen...d_mythbusting/

If you go to an unknown or unfriendly smog place, perhaps they might look that deeply, but I don't think most places would know the difference between a stock from black Wagner...

agree, it's beyond the scope of most of those knuckleheads that are really more concerned now with the obd readout anyway. still it is worth mentioning that wagner themselves by law(?) must indicate in their own adverts/white papers that they are NOT legal in CA.

..and on GP alone i would never go to an "unknown" ( to me ) emissions testing station. oh, hell no lol
