Car Cover Question
Car Cover Question
Hi,
For those of you who own outdoor or have information around outdoor covers, seeking feedback...
I van pool to work to keep the mileage down on my DD. It sits outside until I return as there is no covered parking where I have to park. I need a high quality cover and looked at Pelican Parts / "storm" model. The problem I have been running into is that I have a X50 aero kit which makes for fitment issues for "out of the box" covers. So far my only option I have found is the factory outdoor cover from Porsche. I will end up having to spend about as much $ for the factory one vs. a "custom" one.
Question: Am I getting anything above and beyond by getting a custom one over the factory? (We'll besides the factory logo)

Most of the car cover vender sites list the materials with comparisons plus and minuses etc. If the factory cover fits your needs I would make it easy on myself and get it, plus I like the logo lol.
I have used one on my Audi and have not noticed any damage but I believe the fact that it is custom fit helps. I would prefer to not use but garage is full and the sun is a killer lol.
i'm currently waiting the 10 days for this one to be made/delivered. http://www.the-cover-store.com/62513...ar-Cover-49657
i burned holes in my last one from my exhaust tips
or that too would still be fine. it will fit over aero or gt2 blade no problem.

Covers + even mild outdoor breeze = shifting cover, no matter how slightly = microabrasion. Repeat enough times and you've got your damage, especially on the corners.
And what's with those chumps that drive around with their bumper guards deployed? Great, save a ding here or there, and rub the finish and paint off your whole bumper in the process. Repetitive friction, baby.

I have seen where the cover will scratch the paint due to winds constantly moving the cover across the car. If you use one get a custom fit, California Car Cover does a good job in their manufacture of the covers.
I have a few covers that came with my car, one is for
996 turbo, the other for the 996 GT2. I believe they are both Porsche Tech Equipment covers. May keep the GT2, as I have a GT2 replica wing. Both have Porsche branded duffel bags to hold the cover. I assume both covers have the Porsche crest, have never taken them out of the bag. Would need to confirm condition etc.
They may be indoor covers, I can look them over if you are interested, if they check out, and you are interested maybe we can work something out.
