It can be done. With the Maestro you can lose the MAF all together and run a maffless tune. You can make many files and have them on a laptop and flash anyone of your files to your car is about 1 minute. It will take longer to start up your laptop and plug the cable in then upload your file.

On a side note, are you having coolant temp gauge issues?

If you don't plan to have multiple files I have trouble seeing the value in the maestro. You can get a tune from a vendor for less. That being said I run maestro tuner and originally got it thinking I'd like to be able to edit my own maps... big selling points for me were the obd code reading function(I could sell durametric) and the bank of maps available but it doesn't work to check codes and there is no bank of maps available for our platform. I also considered that I may be able to resale the cable and software if I got rid of the car but they wanted something like $700 to allow another Vin. If I could do it again I'd just go proEFI. I will say that it's loaded with useful features its just overpriced, the audi guys that get it for $700-$800(no P tax) have it good.

Interesting. I hadn't seen this software package before. Looking into the website, there's a lot of info supporting VW and Audi, but it's much lighter in Porsche content.

Does this really make the OE ECU fully accessible for end user tuning of fueling and ignition?

Yes it does. You can idle 2150 cc injectors with this product. You can go maffless too.

The other main benefit to the Maestro over any standalone is that you retain all the countless hours that Porsche engineers put into cold start, part time throttle, etc..

I'm pro standalone but, just creating a WOT map is the somewhat easy part, making the car run like the factory did off WOT, is very time consuming.

once you fuss with TB size, injector size, light weight flywheels, porting heads etc those countless hours porsche engineers put into cold start , part throttle etc are all out the window anyway. you are right tho it takes time to get that back.

I have used it for about 2 years now and it works great. As I stated before its not for everyone. If the end user has never had experience with open ecu tuning I would not recommend it. On the other hand if you have a local tuner or you can do it yourself it saves a lot of hassle that can happen with stand alone.

Heck it must be pretty good if the worlds fastest 996 is running it

Very true but at least you have a decent starting point. I have mapped many standalones and it never gets easy. You only have a few shots a day, if that, to do some on the cold mapping.

OT but, I can't wait to se the results of your build, it is going to be awesome.

+1 on this. I have seen a lot of people feel the need for a standalone and then have a heart attack when they realize the work that goes into it. These people could barely change a flat tire let alone tune an engine.

The Maestro seems like a great alternative. Especially if you know how to tune and/or you get it from a good vender that can help. I suspect USP know what their doing

Spot on, I bought this and luckily Tim941NYC who has our car uses this platform...... I am reading up on everything I can on tuning for E85 which is used by Tapp and the USP guys like Chris for their P cars....

As a simple value add it is a great product if you already have tuning knowledge... like me if you do NOT it is an uphill push to start with... well until you put in the hours of research like I am doing now..... With that knowledge and some confidence this will be a very valuable tool as 3 of the FASTEST and quickest ever Porsche 996 are run using this platform... Chris Tapps car, Chris Green's car etc

One can cross pollinate information from the VW and Audi guys which provide a tonne of data on the Maestro platform... maps up the wazoo... so if you buy this and want to mess with the maps etc, read what others have done already and use that data... I have started this process now and will update as I get into it..

Just from my old GIAC tune and the new Eurodyne tune I can already see where certain maps such as fueling and timing have changed (for the better etc).... reverse engineering the data shows what the expert tuner is trying to do... very valuable indeed, once again if you put in the effort

SO in a few months I expcet I will be up to speed for basic mapping and some remapping.....

If you just want a plug n play tune then you can ALSO BUY this as the Tapp guys give you a base tune which is really good as a starting point.... the software then allows you to add a 100 octane map with a quick tune button and also if you add other hardware such as new injectors that remapping is also built in with a quick 2 or 3 click reprogram....

All in all the bees knees for new tuners and the program also contains a great data logging function which is better than the normal run of the mill Durametric

so for $1500 you get

1. A retune of your existing ECU (much like what the other tuners will give you)
2. A great datalogging product which is graphical and MUCH BETTER than Durametric
3. Ability to change parameters on each and every map as you learn what to do
4. Ability to retune simply for higher or lower octane gas
5. Ability to retune your ECU as you add hardware like larger injectors
6. A community with lots of knowledge of the product
7. If need be you can also pay extra for a custom tune from one of the Eurodyne dealers

Just a word of caution to those who think they are knowledgeable in tuning( end user). most clients do not even know when they are detonating let alone setting boost, fuel, and timing, maps... its not as easy as some vendors mentioned...
An engine job is $15K and not $1500.. be careful to all... let those who specialize in this do their job and enjoy the cars...
