Glad you got it sorted and that it was something easy as that. Those nuisance issues can be a real pain to track and costly to fix.

Thanks V, sometimes I'd rather have a wheel fall off! That's an easy one to diagnose.

I hate to be a stikler, but in order to say you actually know why it happened, you would need to be able to re-produce the clicking. Otherwise it could just be due to dis-assembly and re-assembly (or some other factor that changed at the same time)....just basic failure analysis FWIW.

I had removed the wheels and re-installed them multiple times to see if different lugs, torque patterns, anti-seize, etc would stop the clicking. After this removal, I torqued all 156 wheel bolts to matching specs, and now the clicking is gone. I am fairly confident with my conclusion. Right or wrong, the clicking is gone, and I am a happy camper.

shouldn't your question be WHY did the bolts come loose? aren't they one time use bolts? was there a vibration that caused them to loosen? was it all 4 wheels or just 1 wheel causing the sound? you may have a recurring issue your going to have to deal with

^this. Usually the bolts are secured with Loctite.

If this is a 3 piece wheel: if the inner and outer dish have moved I would also check tire pressure more often, because the seal could have become leaky.

Thanks for the input, everyone!
I have the 542Rs... what is the correct torque for the bolts? Maybe I should check them regularly as a preventative measure.

Thanks!

Hey Steve,
The proper torque is 22 ft/lbs. Just make sure you have an accurate torque wrench.
