First Porsche

Just picked up my first porsche last week. It's a yellow 2001 996 Turbo with 32,000 miles completely stock. Already addicted to the drive. Totally different experience from all the other cars I've owned.

Thanks! Still waiting to get the maintenance records for the car but will probably get it on the lift soon and do a plug change. Feels like it has a slight stumble when cruising at just over 3000 rpm's. And the leaky rams on the spoiler. Already downloaded the pdf service manual. Still love my GTS but I can already see this car cutting down the mileage the viper sees.

The leaky spoiler is a common problem. With a quick search you will see there are a lot of things you can do to permanently fix it. One being a fixed wing position with bars.

Gotta be the color.

That's probably the well-known variocam "feature" you're feeling. Search for it and you'll find more than you'll want to read.

Congrats on the purchase and enjoy it! Stick around here too, lots to learn and contribute!

Looked at a couple threads so far, one being the fluid mix with sealer. I kinda like the automatic spoiler so I'll probably give that a try and see if it helps stop the leaking. It only threw the malfunction light when I test drove the car. The seller had it checked out by a local shop that said the pump needed replacing. Maybe just was getting low from the leak. I'm not sure if they added any fluid or not though. It hasn't done it since and I've put about 700 miles on already so I'm thinking it might not actually be the pump.

LOL, I absolutely love the yellow! I wasn't going to actually try to buy one until next spring but this was the exact car I was looking for that showed up local so I went for it.

I'll check into the variocam and see if that might be it. It seemed very consistent when holding around 3050-3150 rpms that it would kind of stumble or vibrate a little. Didn't seem like the normal symptoms I've run into with previous turbo cars that needed plugs or wires in some of the cases. Figure either way if the plugs haven't been replaced on the car yet might as well get some fresh ones in there.

You can run the spoiler up and down with a battery charger once the wires are disconnected at the pump motor leads. The refill procedure is not easy, just a pita if you ask me. My motor was seized up, once that was fixed and reservoirs filled with straight PS stop leak and bled, she worked fine. Be careful with the microswitches, they are mighty delicate...ha ha
