Not worth a damn...
I would be interested in the car if you are considering The total value in the $45k range
No, I will never trade it in if the dealership places the value in the 40's. I dropped my listing price to $58900 and have considered cashing out the warranty. I thought the extended warranty was a big selling point but since most of the cars currently listed have no warranty and I can't expect to raise the asking price because mine does...I might as well get a couple grand back. Plus it's a 996 Turbo...what could go wrong?
Yes. Not because it's not worth it. However, figure what trade in value you would trade at, then add $3,000-$5,000 to that and sell away. So, if you trade it in for $47,000, put it up for sale at $52,500 - advertise it nationally - and then buy your Stingray. I just did that with my wife's car and sold it within 24 hours, then went in to buy her new car. You will pay taxes, as stated above, on the higher purchase amount.

I love the car and it has been trouble free except for a few rattles here and there. My main concern is the money I will be spending on it in the next couple years and 10k+ miles. I just bought a new house and have a ton of things that need to be done and that takes money! My thinking was to buy a similar vehicle but newer, with factory warranty, and worth keeping for awhile.
For what you will spend for the new car and depreciation you can easily upkeep the 996tt and then some. Take it from someone that use to trade cars every six months the new car will seem old in one year.
I have 100k miles on mine. Haven't touched a thing. Granted, if you keep the vette stock chances are that will last too. But if you mod it, it will prob end up like other LS motors. Boat anchors
Didn't you already do that with the Boxster Spyder before you sold that and bought this? Forgive me if I have the user name wrong.
I've spent less than $1200 in maintenance in the last 2 years on mine.

Yup. I ditched the Spyder for the 996. I regret that now. I didn't think the Spyder had enough power but it was a fantastic car. I seem to buy a different car every two or three years. If I buy a corvette I will probably get rid of it just like the others. Although, I plan on retiring in 7 years so I won't have the finances to trade cars and lose money every time...
Start now keep the 996tt and do a few things to it now and then to keep it interesting. I'm retired and while not regretting most of the cars I've owned they were for the most part money not well spent.
I think that's the route I will end up going. I was out at Jim Ellis Porsche today checking out the service area and getting an estimate for a 30K service. Just for the heck of it I drove a 06 Carrera S with aero kit, pretty loaded, with 12000 miles. It looked good on the outside but the interior was a mess. A lot of the decals on the control ***** and buttons were worn away, paint flaking, and drivers seat was tearing and cracked. It really made me appreciate what I have!
