Not worth a damn...
Yes. I have a Toyota Tacoma mall crawler that I drive daily and love. I can say with certainty that I will never sell or trade it.
I love the car and it has been trouble free except for a few rattles here and there. My main concern is the money I will be spending on it in the next couple years and 10k+ miles. I just bought a new house and have a ton of things that need to be done and that takes money! My thinking was to buy a similar vehicle but newer, with factory warranty, and worth keeping for awhile.
Then, people will get tired of the Z51 in no time. When the Z06 comes out, a lot of them are gonna be available for cheap. Don't be that guy that buys a new Z51 for full retail six months prior to the Z06 launch. You'll be kicking yourself for that.
Just add a nice tune and 1bar wastegate (if you didn't already) and enjoy a freaking fast car (500+hp and 550ft.lbs). Plus, most of the devaluation on the TT is done. That Z51 will lose 10k$ just driving it off the lot.
If the Corvette itch can't be scratched, get the C6 Z06. Most of the devaluation is done and its a quicker car than the Z51. If you enjoyed your Spyder, look at an elise/exige. Lots of fun and super easy/cheap to maintain. These cars don't lose much $$$ anymore as they are not imported anymore.
Good luck.
I have a really good aftermarket warranty through JM&A. However, they are not at all quick to make a decision on covering certain things. I had a power steering pump issue shortly after I purchased the car. It was TSB but Porsche wouldn't do anything for me since the car was too old and it was a $2000 fix. The service manager spent the better part of two weeks trying to convince JM&A to fix the issue. They sent a representative out to the dealership and wouldn't sign off on the work until they could replicate the noise from the pump(high pitch whine). The entire process took over a month. So if the car was my daily driver I would've had a rough go of it. I tend to think factory warranty claims iron themselves out quicker. I could be wrong.
I think you're probably spot on with the Z51. The Z06 will make a big difference in Z51 value and popularity. This thread is exactly what I needed to get some clarity.

I'm actually "cross shopping" these two cars. If I already had an 05 Turbo X50, I think I'd keep that. Hearing the trade in number kinda freaks me out a bit as a buyer though. Odd color? Tip trans?
Unless you have to replace and engine for some freak reason, what can go wrong with a 27k 996 turbo that will cost anywhere near what you'd be paying to trade into a C7? I think 6 months after you have the C7 you'd be wishing you still had the 996 turbo cab. I don't even live in a particularly wealthy neighborhood and I'm already seeing a couple C7s driving around here pretty regularly. Probably shallow of me, but one of the things that appeals about the Porsche is there's probably 10 corvette owners within a square mile of me. Only 1 997.1 S.
