radio noise. need help!!!!?
my 996tt has a noise coming throught the speakers, (like a whine/tick) not all the time but does get louder when rpms increase. happens more offten when im using the a/c but also happens on occasion when a/c is off too. heres the strange part if you turn the headlights on while its making the noise it instantly stops! im thinking ground?
anyone seen this before that could save me some time trying to figure this out? it is a factory radio cdr 220 and everything else is factory too.

Is there an aftermarket radio with speakers installed?
I had this issue in the past with my Audi A4. The likely candidate is running the speaker cable next to a power cable. The speaker cables need to be away from the power cables and if necessary they can cross but at as close to a right angle as possible.

I don't remember if the his got louder with RPM, the pops were what drove me crazy. Sourced it to the driver side rear and once I fixed the wire, problem solved.
I hope you get it sorted soon.

It is slowing getting worse. It seems to be at its worst when braking. The front brakes are worn enough that the warning light comes on once in awhile.
My Boxster did the same thing when its front brakes were worn out, the warning light was coming on. It stopped this when the brakes were replaced along with the brake wear sensors.
Now the Boxster has even poorer radio reception than the Turbo and I found that removing the passenger side sun visor then removing the interior trim at the passenger a-pillar and unscrewing a hex head screw that goes through a metal bracket that is part of something in the radio antenna circuit and screws into the a-pillar sheet metal really improves radio reception. However, the improvement doesn't last long, maybe 6 months. It has been several years since I've done this and the radio is slowly becoming useless unless I'm in a real good radio reception area.
I have never done this with the Turbo. Don't even know if the same box/wiring is behind the a-pillar trim.
The techs tell me that sometimes radio issues can be due to a marginal connection between the car and the battery. I can't recall now if it was the positive or negative cable, I think though it was the negative cable. A tech told me that just loosening the fastener that holds the battery cable to its attachment point of the car then tightening this again can work wonders. I have not bothered to try this as whenever I'm thinking about it I'm not near the car or I'm in the car going someplace and can't stop to wrench on the car.
