Painting Sport Seatbacks - R&R

So I started the project of having my seatbacks painted today, with the removal phase!

I know there have been posts on this before so I won’t go into all the details. However, in the posts I found, there was no mention of the seat cushions being glued around the edges, presumably to keep them in place while stretching the leather. I was able to remove most of the residual, but do I need to re-glue the cushion when reinstalling? What adhesive do I use? Any recommendation is appreciated.

Also, I learned a few things along the way: I used a plastic ballpoint pen as leverage when removing the leather. I slid it carefully along the seam and it helped tremendously with the removal process. I also took some pictures of how the electrical plug disconnects.

I will update this post when I get them back from the paint shop!

Fixing clip for wiring harness

Under the driver's seat I found this piece, "Fixing clip for wiring harness" per the part number, attached to the wiring harness. I can't figure out where it is supposed to be attached. Mine apparently became dislodged because the "push clip" is broken off the back. Any ideas?

Seatbacks being prepped at the paint shop!

Does the passenger seat not have the same clip?

Can't wait to see how this works out for you.

I've been toying with doing this for a long time... Can you tell us how much your painter is charging for prep and paint?

I was toying with it for quite some time as well. I checked around quite a bit and got several quotes. Eric from bumper plugs quoted 300 bucks per seat but I would also have to pay shipping both ways. Local body shops ranged from $400 all the way to $1000. The $400 quote was actually from an authorized Porsche collision center.

In the end I found a high end body shop in my city who quoted $500. I asked them to match the $400 quote and they did. I am excited and will report back with photos as soon as they're done.

No luck in my search for your the clip under the seat. I had all four bolts removed that hold the seat and was able to move it backward and take a good look under but nothing similar It was a good time to do a clean-up and lubricate all the gears at the same time.

I wouldn't sweat it, bud. That clip just does what it says, keeps the harness plug in place. Nothing a little creative zip-tying can't accomplish, and do so far better.

While you're in there, I'd recommend grabbing up the SmartTop and RemoteTop upgrades if your interests and budget dictate. I'm very happy with mine.

Good luck!

Yeah, I know! It's the OCD in me !

I remember talking with you about the smarttop before. I seem to remember it was a bit pricey, no?
