Lets make a deal, buying a used 996TT

I currently drive a 2008 modified BMW 335xi. Its in the range of 400/400 awhp/torque. I love my car, but am thinking its time to move on. My friend has a 03 996TT with ~12,000 miles on it. I don't think its x50, but don't know much else about it. I'm going to check it out this week i think. He wants 50k for it. I'm not sure how to price it... any help would be greatly appreciated.

As an aside, I've also been looking around at different tunes, but can't find a good comparison thread. I see a lot of wastegate upgrades on top of ecu flashes. I'm unfamiliar, as my 335 has internal wastegates and we don't mess with those. Thanks in advance for any help.

Justin

price sounds good for the year and mileage. as for tunes, theres a few good tuners you can choose. like protomotive, i would call and ask questions ,customer service is also essential for future mods /questions.

An 03 with 12k is a gem of a find grab it man. Tons of good tuners around depends upon your location/State.

Does epl send something to you to flash the ecu? Then you log and repeat? I am having a hard time digesting the Porsche tuning scene. There are less choices in BMW... And I guess I have a few years of experience there...

What is the 5bar addition to the epl base tune, a fuel pump change?

Nobody send their ecu in anymore . They make you a flash then you data log the car send them info they adjust and send it back .

Your not to far from epl , why don't you just drive up there and have him dyno tune it

The 5 bar pressure regulator . He likes leaving the stock one and goes with bigger injectors which is the right way to do it the more fuel pressure the less flow from the fuel pump

I am a new owner but picked up an 01 with 10k for just under $44 so the price seems reasonable to what I just paid for year/mileage.

I own a e93 335i 515whp with upgraded turbos and 996tt, so I would say go for it if you like it.. Price seems a bit high to me, but in the end is a low miles car.

I went with Markski and I have been very satisfied, he is always on call if you need something and will take good care of your pocket...try to call him as he is offering also free tunes for a week or two, try and buy... Another good option would be Protomotive... If you are looking for just a tune than a lot of guys can help you out, and just a few for a car that will get various upgrades in time as perhaps you will ask for them... i suggest you to buy a multiple tunes package for a few 100$ more...

based on my research of 80 cars being sold, average asking price for an '03 TT is $38,907. However, model year doesn't really move the needle. Miles on the odo are the real driver. 12,000 miles is off the chart, but extrapolation of data suggests an average asking price of $47,000. Condition, records, options will move that up or down.

Bottom line is people will pay for what they want. All the guide books in the world can only give you a gauge of what money you are looking at. If the car is just what you want, don't lose it by going cheap.
