Roll Bar Nightmare

much more satisfying than fighting to do it without cutting plastic.
when you sell the car you can replace the plastic piece under the carpet.

Good/correct advice to make the job easier -- the replacement cost for the plastic piece is also inexpensive.

I had the same problem when I tried to add a Harness Bar for my camera mount in my 2003 TT. Speak to Bob at STABLE ENERGIES, 973-773-3177. I bought the bar from him and had to go back for him to remove the mounts and bolts that hold in the front seat belt. He did it with a small flat screwdriver, pushing in a metal tab on the left and right side of the adjustable mount. You cannot see the tabs without a flashlight and knowing where they are. He photographed my car and the mounts in and out of the car. He may be able to e-mail you the photos or at least talk you through the disassembly.

The saga continues!!!
Well I was able to remove the belt height slide adjusters...pretty easy, the hole unit comes off...So things are improving. Connected the front legs, went to swivel it back into position, it's gets past the seat belt, then stops....The friggin clothes hook is in the way...no problem, they just popped off. I have one of the rear legs bolted in after much struggle...it seems the orientation of the threads is not exactly perpendicular...whoops, forgot the spacer, out comes the bolt, will be trying this again. My fingers are almost raw at this point trying to get the precision machined bolts started...Well I am going to get the 3rd bolt back in and call it a night...
Man, I am questioning the value of putting a DIY together on this...I don't think I would wish this process on my worst enemy...
"Film @ 11:00" !!!

Finally, when I was ready to give up, "DA BAR IS IN !!!!". For those who have not done it, you really can't imagine what it is like until you live it. Quite frankly, if you elect to do it by yourself, immediately get an appointment with a psychiatrist. You really need to get your head examined...Although if you chose to accept this mission, when the mission is accomplished, it is more satisfying than sex, IMVHO...The seats go in tomorrow...Thank you all for bearing with me through all my pain and suffering. And for those who offered help and advice, a big thank you....

The two that I did took 4 and 6 hours respectively. The 2 additional hours for the second one was due to slightly damaged threads on one of the two front bolts. I had learned a few tricks from first install that I carried into the second install.
In Chris's (Rockitman's) defense, upon speaking with him on the phone, the GT3 does not have rear seat belts so there isn't any point of reference to locate the rear chassis bolt holes under the carpet. That surely made things more difficult.
After Chris posts his DIY, I'll add a few comments on my tricks to supplement it. They wouldn't be as useful standing on their own.

My 4 point rollbar arrives on Saturday and goes in this weekend. I can't wait!! Based on what I read in this thread I immediatly made an appointment to have it installed. I know I'm taking the easy way out but hearing the 4 to 6 hour horror stories scared me away.
I'll be sure to post pictures on Sunday evening.

The install is being done by a qualifed shop that does lots of racing and has experience putting rollbars in cars. I have a full carbon interior so I'll be keeping my eye on them. They convinced me to let me them do the install. Were actually doing it at the track this weekend here in Florida. Should be fun and I'll take some pictures for everyone to see the process with seats out, etc. With two pro installers that do lots of these it should take them about 2 hours total.
I can't wait!!
