I did a search and could not find any info on this but... the X50 package is supposed to have exhaust differences vs the standard TT. Does the x50 exhaust sound different?

 

To me, yes. It's a different exhaust than what's on the non-X50 cars. I think it's louder at cold start up and also a bit deeper sounding during acceleration.

Different turbos make different exhaust sounds.

 

My X50 is louder than my last 996tt.

 

stock it sounds like crap. Even with aftermarket, still sounds like crap. Will never sound like a V-12 - but it does haul ***.

 

The exhausts are the same whether you have a non x50 car or a x50 car. They x50 equipped cars sound different as mentioned because of the larger turbos. No physical difference in the exhausts though (minus the tips) Sounds like it's time to upgrade turbos and get that sound you yearn for!!

 

Not true. The exhaust for the X50 cars is different than the non-X50 cars. Different part number too. From the Porsche Website:

“The 911 Turbo adds an optional X50 engine enhancement performance package that increases horsepower to 444 (SAE) @ 5,700 rpm and sustains 457 lb.-ft of peak torque from 3,500 – 4,500 rpm. The new package includes modifications to the turbo charger, air intake cooler, electronic control unit, exhaust system,
as well as a strengthened transmission. The X50 package is only available as an option from factory.�

Also, the twin circle tips do not come standard on the X50 cars. Mine came with the standard tips. The twin circle tips are/were available as an option on any turbo.
