Bay Area - experience with FLINTWORKS?
Bay Area - experience with FLINTWORKS?
I need to have my lifters replaced and it is so hard to find a trustworthy shop. Does anyone in the Bay Area have any comment on Flintworks in Campbell? I'm thinking of using them. Sharkwerks doesn't really do repairs and they are too busy.
I opened this thread many months ago and was really in denial even though many symptoms pointed to bad intake lifters.
Since then, I still get strange AFR disparities between banks at random times and the low load or idle misfire on some cylinders comes and goes. Now there are also very tiny alloy particles visible in the oil filter element when I cut it apart. I don't think the oil had enough miles on it the last few times I tried looking at the filter and I let it go for 2000 miles this time.
Everything possible has been done to address the CEL except for Intake lifters. There are multiple documented cases of intake lifters coming apart on our cars; it's not unusual.

Thank you but Sac is a bit far. I'd go to S Car Go in San Rafael before traveling to SacTown.

The estimate is $6800 so I'm not sure how much more S Car go would have been. I hate spending that much on something that never should have failed to begin with but I knew the risks when I bought this rig...which I still love! I drop her off on Tuesday and I'm going to miss her while she is under the knife. I won't miss that CEL every 2 days.
Overfilling the oil on these cars is sadly a common mistake especially when they hand off oil changes to less experienced shop staff. It's very easy to forget one of the drain plugs. Do you remember which tech screwed up your oil change?
Yes, it was Chris. They said they would clean up the intercoolers, etc. I brought it in to let them do this, but just to find out they didn't do it. I took off ICs to clean it myself and obvious they didn't do it. Good luck.
That is bad news. I will definitely be watching them more closely after reading your post. In addition to being present when they pull the cams so I can see the condition of the old lifters, I'm going to formally request that they give me all my old parts before any work starts which they legally have to do.
I really hope the people I trust that recommended this place to me aren't wrong and you had an isolated bad experience. Time will tell
