Vibration Level of 996 tt vs. 930
My 930 was very smooth as well. I'm echoing what others are saying here. I think you may have an issue with your 996tt. It's difficult to say what because a little noise and vibration means different things to everyone. I know some cars have more IMS noise whereas other cars don't for some reason. You say it does it at speed and while idling? Does it get worse as the rpms rise?
only thing i remember about my 930 was i had more hair. but the tt normal n&v is on par with my 993 but there's more going on in back, so possibly more "noise". but add a lwfw or semi solids and all bets and definitions of "normal" "noise" are off lol
Lwfw?
The noise level is not an issue, although it doesn't sound nearly as cool as the 930. It's the rough under throttle. The steering wheel visibly shakes just a little bit at idle, and it just doesn't feel is smooth under throttle.

18000 miles when I got it, and pretty obviously accurate based on condition. If the motor mounts are shot, it is based on age. I got my 89 930 about the same time this car was made and those motor mounts are just fine. Are motor mounts a known issue?
I would not from what I have seen and read say they are an issue but they do wear out. If your car was having vibration issues with 18k I doubt its the mounts but I would still check them out. Is there a chance someone put solid mounts in previous to your ownership? Check your trans mount also.
