Does it matter if we're talking about 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, or around a track?

It depends on if it is the 455hp or the 472hp (?) version GT2 (1st or 2nd gen 996 GT2 that is).

Exhaust and chip, so around 500-520hp. However, that will only count for straight line runs. Around a track is more than just horsepower.

HP isn't everything...I think there is a pretty big weight difference and also the fact the GT2 is RWD so getting a Turbo to "match" a GT2 is pretty difficult unless you mod the hell out of the Turbo

Just take the turbo badge off and put on the GT2. Save yourself some money and boost performance like crazy.

I raced my friends Gt2 with no-cat remus exhaust and he was running 110 octane gas, my 01 TT has GIAC chip and FVD exhaust with cats on 91 octane gas. We rolled from 40mph to about 120mph and his car killed me very bad, it was not even close.
We both knew his car was going to be faster specialy with the 110 gas but I was surprised how much faster it was from a roll.
I drove his car and I must say my TT feels like a cadillac next to his as far a weight, but as far as everyday car the GT2 is very difficult to drive due to its heavy clutch and no traction control/no AWD.
by the way he has a 04 Gt2. tires cars motorcycle

Trev - don't take this at an insult or anything, because it's not my intention. Racing requires a lot more than the car itself. The driver is probably 90% of the equation, but it's very possible that his car was that much faster than yours.

That is true,

But in every gear he would just pull very hard. We did a couple of pulls one starting with 2nd gear and another in 3rd gear just to eliminate the shifting and in every case he would just pull hard. Also he raced another friend of mine with a 03 Corvette Z06 and it was like the Z06 was standing still. The GT2 pulls very very hard, I guess the 04 Gt2 is even faster then the 02's. As far as the driving I have had many fast cars and know when I granny shift and in this case I didn't, in fact my friend with The GT2 is a very conservative driver as far as shifting and going into turns, in our race he would granny shift and once he was in gear he would just pull hard. When we hit the canyons I just blow him away due to his conservative driving. I have also seen on this board the Gt2 horsepower #'s are conservative and they actualy put out more power then what porsche claims. click here

Is there any chance that it is not the GT2 that is underrated but rather your car that was overrated? Just a thought. Please don't take this offensively, you raised a very interesting question. As an FYI, the GT3s and GT2s seem to be underrated only on Mustangs and similar dynos. Tests done in Europe show them only slightly off up or down. If you check tested acceleration figures and apply hp/lbs ratios you will see that GT2s are quite close to the stated numbers. Try the same with tuner cars and you might be surprised.

I will say this in respect to GT3s:

'01 turbo w/ exhaust and 19" wheels vs '04 (?) GT3 w/ intake = turbo pulls in all gears

The GT2 is a special car, not meant for daily driving. I have my little Mazda3 for daily and breakout the GT2 on the weekends

An '04 car will not be noticably faster ... all GT2's are fast as Hell

Ruiner, sorry I am afraid I did not understand your point. I did not compare both cars, my point was that both models are showing numbers similar to factory claims on the dynos, contrary to what is being said here, and acceleration numbers prove it.

I was just saying that they are doing that very thing as well. The turbo is typically the same, if not underrated as well, and playing around with the GT3 proved that.

tjmpb,

I have a Stage IV EVOMS/IMAGINE AUTO tune on my tiptronic 2001 996TT. I removed some weight of the car (approx. 100lbs)as well. I raced a GT2 from a stand still, rolling at 20 mph and rolling at 50 mph. I killed him all three times. To give you a better idea, i pull a car length in first and second gears. After that, he is no match what so ever. Go to a GT640 stage of tune and you would blast him even more. Hope that helps!

Yes, but you can always tune a GT2 as well.

And for the track, there are far more suspension tuning options for a GT2 than a Turbo as well.
