Car Storage

New to the Porsche family, great forum.

We live on Galveston Bay and park our cars under the house which is raised up about 8' off the ground. But we don't have a garage or anything enclosed. So our cars are exposed to the wind, which can be substantial, and constant salty air. Any thoughts on how I should store the car when I am not driving it?

I've heard a car cover can rub on the paint over time, but will it protect the car better over the long run from the affects of salty air?

Chris

A salty environment will corrode the undercarriage and suspension, not to mention your transmission and motor in short order basically ruining your car. I was going to buy an '05 Turbo S when it was 4 years old with a bit over 30K miles. A PPi revealed a horribly corroded undercarriage, trans and motor case. All hardware, nuts, bolts and fasteners were corroded as well. The owner of the shop preforming the PPi found no issues other than that but stated once salt starts eating aluminum it's hard to stop and will make future work on the car very costly. He suggested not to buy the car for any price. It was from Atlantic City and he also had a condo in Florida on the beach with outside parking.

Enclose your parking or find a garage, salt will destroy your car.

Agree with above comments you need to keep car out of the salty air if possible= garage etc or bubble maybe but have no experience with one.
