Y pipe
Y pipe
So while I was out enjoying my new to me 996TT today I was getting on it pretty hard getting on the freeway and heard a pop followed by an abs warning light and a check engine light. I limped the car home and opened the hood to find that the boot going from the intercooler to the y pipe blew off somehow. I put it back on and at least the thing will idle now but upon further examination it looks like the y pipe where the clamp secures to it actually had a piece of it break off.
The car is going to the shop anyway tomorrow, so I will have them take care of it, but just out of curiosity any idea how much a stock y pipe is? Is this something I should upgrade to aftermarket? I really have no plans to modify this thing to make massive power, I think it has a flash now and that's it. I have no intention of really doing anything else. I'm just wondering if an aftermarket metal one will keep this from happening again?
On another note, I thought metal was bad to use for these things because it absorbs and holds the heat?

Stick with stock if you are flash only. There should be a few for sale in the market place. Do you have a pic of the broken piece? You could upgrade to a boost hose kit and have the aluminum adapter welded on to your broken wye pipe.
