Heavy brake dust and light squeaking
My car has still under 12k and relatively new to me but I notice the rear rims seem to gather a fair amount of brake dust and I am getting some brake squeaking when applying the brake. Are the OEM brakes known to make noise and is the brake dust normal? With the low mileage I didn't know if maybe the caliper needs to be taken off and just cleaned. The pads should still be plenty left.

Be sure the holes in the brake disc are free of any dust/rust build up. My low miles (10K) Turbo -- when I first bought it -- had the holes plugged with this stuff. I had to go around and clean out every hole in each of the discs.
After you wash the car be sure you take the car out for a nice drive and use the brakes enough to get them hot enough to dry everything.
Also, treat the brake hardware to a good washing. What I do every once in a while -- when either my Turbo or my Boxster develops a mild brake squeak -- is to take the car to local car wash and use the soap setting of the wash wand to wash the wheels and spray the brake hardware what I can get at without jamming the nozzle tip at the caliper.
Then I switch to the rinse setting and thoroughly rinse the soapy water away then finish with the no spot rinse setting. This has a much lower pressure spray from the nozzle so get the tip a bit closer to the hardware and really give the brake hardware a good rinsing.
Afterwards I drive the car around perform some rather hard braking -- avoiding bringing the car to a stop with the brakes "hot" -- to really dry the brakes out thoroughly.
If you want this drying process can be a brake bedding in process. Take the car up to spew and then when safe apply the brakes moderately hard. No ABS trigger but you want to the brakes to scrub some speed. Avoid bringing the car to a stop! Let off of the brakes after the car has lost say 50% or 60% of its speed. Repeat this a 2nd time, then be sure to drive the car around until the brakes are relatively cool again.
What washing will have the brakes quiet again and the brake bedding in will have the brake hardware dry and the brakes bedded in again and you'll notice an improvement in braking.
