Wakey-wakey, ol' thread...

Questions for IITURBO, since you seem to know the ins and outs of this particular issue. If anyone else out there knows, feel free to bring the knowledge.

I get an occasional whine at startup. Not all the time. When it does happen, sometimes it's immediate, sometimes a few seconds after startup. Lasts for a few seconds at most and fades out. Sounds like it's coming from the front, middle to passenger side. Not as high pitched as a dentist's drill, maybe an octave lower (those things are high pitched!), but I could make the connection. The pitch never increases or decreases, it just begins and fades out.

So the questions are
1.) does this sound like the air injection pump bearing issue you were describing upthread, and
2.) in your opinion, could it be related to the P0445 & P0455 vacuum codes I seem to get once per tank?

Depending on the answers, I might have more questions about possibly related other items. Yay.

my first thought before rereading the entire thread, was the sai pump.. and sure enough..that's probably it, but IITURBO will hopefully clarify. I've never had one fail but startup sounds are peculiar to each car. mines thankfully fairly quiet but i STILL get an occasional screech that scares the sh*t outa me. running 5/50 too!

but i also think i know the sound you describe, it would(?) be the sai and it goes away very quickly. gl with it!

 

It doesn't seem to have any impact on the operation of the car, and from the sound, it definitely sounds like an "accessory" of some kind, i.e. not related to the motor.

I'm catless, so maybe just yanking it and tying off the leads is the way to go anyway. But the feedback here is helpful in making me feel like I'm not on some goose chase, thanks!

I get this on occasion too. And it's friggen loud when I'm leaving from the company parking structure as it echos throughout. And of course, it's stop usually right as I get out of the structure.

Pretty sure it's the SAI as it's only on startup for a specific duration. Then goes silent and all is peaceful with only the engine thrum again.

 

mine went away, long time ago, lol.
