How do I pin or welding coolant pipes on the 996TT

Hello everyone, I've been trying to research how to weld or pin the coolant pipes on my 996 turbo and had no luck. I was hoping to find a thread with pictures on where to locate The pipes and what is necessary to get the job done right.

Also what do you guys suggest more welding or pinning...
Keep in mind I do live in Toronto and our summers here are not anything special ... on a lucky day 80 degrees... And I don't track or drag my car strictly a weekend street car...

I am planning to make a tad over 700whp .. Let me know guys please

Thank you

I did mine this Spring...8 pipes in total: 3 behind alternator, 3 by waterpump, 1 by oil cooler, 1 by power steering pump

honestly can't say there's a single shop in the GTA that I would recommend(seen many 'fails'), I'm the only one who touches my car...

Great question...but based on the pictures, it looks as though the motor was pulled. Otherwise I really don't think one can reach all those fittings. One day I will also have this done too:(......thanks to the bean counters in PAG that put profits ahead of excellence.

was engine/transaxle dropped as an assembly, I have a hoist but same job can be done with floor jack and stands.
I went with pinning for a number of reasons, that I will not go into (starts a thread-war every time, lol)
Great time to do a full cooling system rebuild, W/P, thermostat, hoses, tank, etc...
While driveline is down, also did my 72lb injectors and went over the full intake/vacuum system to retighten and improve.

I will "go into it" for ya..lol I JB Welded the one fitting that popped out. I then "pinned" it along with the rest of them. Simply JB Welding an existing factory glued fitting is like wrapping duct tape around a radiator hose! I did all fittings with engine in place. It is a bear the first time. Make a check list because anything you forget or miss, the engine has to come back apart. I could probably do it in a day now. The first time took two days. The "pinning" method prevents the fitting from moving as everything expands and contracts with heat. Good luck! If you take it apart or drop engine, dont just JB it only, go ahead and pin also.

I often drive a 1998 Chevy 1500 pick up truck with 180k miles on it when my "projects" are apart being worked on. This is a 1500 dollar vehicle and I would NEVER even use JB weld on it let alone use it on a 996.

The only permanent, in my opinion "real" solution is welding the fittings and then pressure testing each one individually for leaks. Pinning stops catastrophic failure and introduces leaks (we've "fixed" many at this point). These leaks still require an engine removal to fix. Do it once, do it right....
