clutch
hello, I have 04 996 turbo, few day ago I was driving with speed of 20 miles, Suddenly I heard a noise and my clutch went down to floor. I pulled it up manually and then I notice the clutch is stock and would not go down any more. I towed the car home. I check for any sign of fluid leak, None, I look at front clutch fluid reservoir, No over filled, car can be started with pressing the switch underneath of the pedal but clutch is very hard and if I pushed it very hard will stay down, and I can not engage into any gear. I was thinking after reading several posted clutch issues that I might have broken T.O. bearing or fork. But today I inspected my slave cylinder and notice it is extremely loose and you can moving it freely. my question, Can it be slave cylinder itself? or is it the fork to the end of slave ? Does transmission have to come out. what do you guys think the issue might be? I would highly appreciate your input. Thanks.
the slave shouldn't be moving, and if it gave out you have no clutch. i couldn't rule out the TO or fork as I've never broken them. but a slave is enough. the trans doesn't have tp come OUT but there isn't enough clearance to get to it without lowering the motor. so yes, you'll be moving the trans somewhat while the accumulator is replaceable up on jacks.

Agree with 02996ttx50. The slave should not be moving. It is held with two bolts M10 x 35. If it is moving may be the plunger (called a pushrod in the repair manual) at the end of the piston came of the fork. You better get a proper look at the slave attachment to see if one of the bolts is missing or may be one of the lugs on the slave is broken. The slave can be replaced without removing the transmission. It is about a three hours job. I did a DIY on Renntech. You can view it if you are a contributor here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutor...r-replacement/
Note: removal installation of the slave at page 671 of the repair manual found here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...p-manuals.html

jp, i must say, you are sorely missed when not posting
great post.
edit: and upon reflection jp is of course correct. you needn't REMOVE the trans but i had mine backed out at the same time i replaced the slave to r&r the rms as well as look at my clutch wear. whew. its been a awhile, sorry.

That's just what I was trying to say. It has to be lowered for enough clearance to get at everything easily.
thank you so much for advice, I inspect the slave looks like all bolts are there but slave is moving freely, I am thinking to tow it to shop, if you guys know someone Honest and reasonable in LA or Orange county would you please let me know. Thanks.
lots of shops in both counties. if anywhere near NoHo or hollywood/la i would just try to get into speed gallery. but you may have to have a secret password. just kidding. if not perhaps some oc guys will chime in. good l;uck.
No, it is all factory, I look again under the car remove the drive shaft and find out that one of the 15mm slave bracket is fractured causing it to move freely, I think I pushed the clutch so hard that broke the bracket since the slave' shaft movement is blacked. the transmission has to come out and check the fork and bearing .
