New 996TT Owner - First Porsche!
New 996TT Owner - First Porsche!
After a 3 month long west coast search, I was able to find exactly what I was looking in a 996TT. The car was in San Diego....2002, six speed, seal grey & black leather. Bone stock, 3 California owners, no stories, no issues, all docs and more importantly all service records from day 1. The Englishman I bought it from was literally a grandfather, he's 72 and has owned and more importantly loved the car since 2007. Not only did he pay for the $300 PPI, he spent $1200 to address all the items listed (CV boots, axle seal). He basically told me he wouldn't sell a car that wasn't in perfect working order. He spent a ton of dough on a new clutch 5000 miles ago, so that's another seemingly common wear item that's been addressed.
The mileage is now 44K, which was a bit higher than my initial plan, but the car looks and runs as well as any 20-30K car I checked out and shows little to no wear.
Due to our crazy SF rain storms the past few weeks, I decided to stash the car in a friend's garage in O.C. until the weather improved for my 450 mile ride home.
On Monday I was on my way home to SF....with a small detour to see Sam @ Bydesign in LA for a Kline exhaust and tune.
The car runs great and the trip up the 5 was uneventful save for having to dodge a giant tumbleweed. My initial impression is that this car has a nice balance of refinement, handling, and power. Given I bought this car to replace a tuned '07 WRX STi that I grew bored with, it's not really a fair comparison, despite the AWD, boxer engine, and strong turbo power. My automotive resume includes 3 Mustangs, including a 440whp fox body, '96 Viper GTS, BMW 335i, and 2 different '07 WRX STIs, both tuned.
I plan on getting the exhaust installed in a week or so. I also have have GT3 shifter and lower center console ready to go (for some reason, my car has GT3 center console delete).
Thanks again to all of you who shared your insights and advice (you all know who you are!). By checking out several "wrong" cars I was able to build up a knowledge base to really know what 'good' looks like and was able to negotiate a fair deal for a solid car.
I'll take some local pics soon, but I know everyone here wants pics 'or it never happened'....the bow was the wife's idea given the time of year!

Very clean, I would like to see more of these really nice examples left stock as they are only that way once but realize I'm in the very small minority lol. And yes I know they can be detuned and exhaust removed. Hope the car treats you well enjoy!

Congrats again Sean. Like I said I like your style! Can't drive a stock and quiet car, are you carzy?! With all the cars you have had and tinkered with I really like this move and I think she will impress you. Enjoy!
Very clean one I agree. And tight. Felt like it was only a few miles old. It's always great when you know the seller is legit and stand-up.

Have fun with it!
