I thought I was too smart and due to my ignorance, I continued to be troubled and frustrated by a small leak/drip from the oil tank drain plug.
After changing oil, I order the copper oil tank washer and aluminum crankcase washer from pelican. When replacing the oil tank plug washer I noticed its a little smaller and did fit all the way to the plug head, so being so smart I used the larger crankcase washer and then noticed the leak. I looked up the washer in a parts catalog which verified using the smaller washer, so I decided to try it using the smaller washer, it expanded (what it was designed to do) and sealed nicely between the plug and tank. No more drip. I thought I'd share just in case there was another 6speeder trying to out smart what is the right part. Kenny

 

Nice you fixed the leak and bet you wont do that again= we all have had those things happen.

 

I never use those washers. Never had a leak. My m3 used them to. Never replaced them.

 

i'm fastidious about replacing them both! having once left a small puddle from the oil tank. but then i never drain my turbo's.. go figure

 

Draining turbos is silliness

 

until you decide to change turbos and needto get the torx bolt thats INSIDE the turbo tank and you find out the plug is frozen because its just silly to remove it

no idea what that means. Lol

 

when you need to get to that hidden bolt inside the turbo tank then you will know what i mean.

 

Guess I don't know why a hidden bolt would be in the tank...or why it would need to come out. Maybe I'll find out one day

 

It's how the tank is attached, if you ever need to remove it you'll need to get inside the tank via the drain to reach the torx bolt...
