It happens with any higher end car as it gets into the bottom of its depreciation curve.

I respect purists because they want their car to be exactly how it is and thats what makes them happy. But, in the end, these are simply bits of metal, plastic and rubber that people buy to enjoy. What I do to my car(s) is to maximize my enjoyment of them at any given time.

I just believe that any car the caliber of the Porsche 911TT should never suffer the things that I see being done today. Also I cringe when I see older Japanese cars such as the Supra-Rx7 and 300z beaten into the ground. I have to disagree to some extent as in the past you rarely found a 911 that was trashed with low end mods as for the most part they weren't available or thought about. People are brainwashed with media today that wasn't even thought of then. Back in the day it was pretty much high end tuner stuff or nothing.

I haven't posted much lately either. I still have my TT and drive it daily. I bought a 2014 GT3 last fall, so I do find myself more in the GT3 forums - mainly on RL.

Still love my 996TT though!

In reference to it happening to 911's right now. I would put that to the fact that the 2000's were an utter dead space for performance cars, especially from Japan. Almost all of the 90's Japanese cars have begun to appreciate in value which puts them near on par with the 996TT. Add to the fact that there are very few mid-priced sports cars available on the market and you have the perfect storm.

Tuner media today is nothing like it was 10 years ago. The culture as a whole has died own incredibly. When I first lived in the DC area in the early 2000's, there were modified cars everywhere. You couldnt drive down a major road without seeing a handful of them. I recently moved back to the area from NYC and its completely changed.

Personally, I dont think its the fact that the cars have become cheap so much as you have those 2000's guys who grew up on on Japanese imports now looking at higher end cars. Yes, they do still carry some of that mentality with them.

I'm talking way farther back then 2000 but I understand the point your making and it has some validity.

many members/friends I know moved on for various reasons.. some because they sold the cars and others simply lost interest- hijacking and slamming of others as the norm... in my opinion, someone who blows up a motor and talks about it gets 15 pages of comments meanwhile others run record numbers be it 1/4 mile, 60 to 130 or top speed etc gets 2 pages... something does not add up... thats all... it used to be the other way around... I remember this site to be super active with real good people...

I think there is a shift towards social media. The Audi forums have become less frequented in favor of facebook private groups.

Good write up Markski and I stick with the car getting lower in value and a different person/outlook coming into the mix.

One positive way to look at it is that it will actually increase the value of your car. The more people that ruin good examples of the 996TT, the rarer it becomes and thus, more valuable.

Just be glad you dont have a M3. Westchester NY is plagued by pizza boys driving M3's their parents bought them.

There seems to be a lot of lurkers. There are threads on pg. 1 of the 996 section with 200,000+ views, yet I see the same 30-50 names posting.

It may also be the fact that there is so much information on this forum that people can actually use the search function and do not have to make a thread about something that has been covered numerous times.

Half of the threads on the M5 forum are pretty much things that were covered 15-20 times already but they are just to lazy to use the search function.

Or maybe I just think before I make a stupid thread
