The 6's not the spot anymore?
Maybe he isn't considering 50 old fart territory...at least I hope...lol
Age is a number, what hes talking about is a state of mind and I totally agree with him. Its unfortunate because a lot of the people who have the most knowledge and experience on those forums have a poor attitude about giving out that information. Here people who know whats up like Tim (and many others) are a lot more willing to share and be casual about it instead of holding it over other members' heads.

racing W2W and skateboarding keeps you young
I personally think that 6spd is the best 996T forum out there as of right now. I barely post (2 posts LOL) on Rennlist because of the old fart mentality over there even though I see a lot of duplicate posts over there that are started here. That place turned me off when a handfull of old farts said my Cayenne TT couldn't be modded!..HORSESH@T. I did it and ran like a BEAST..now it's the norm. I can't stand scare tactics that some people throw out without having 1st hand knowledge...this place seems to be better about that and more supportive.
I also like the fact that the platform is moving into owners hands who want to do BIG mods and push the envelope (no matter what people say) because that's what I like! I see most of those big build threads here. I really don't see why our cars 996T can't compete with some of the big dawgs out there...GTR, Supra TTs (I've owned 3 MKIVs), Vipers, etc.
Any who...I check this place daily to see what's up and hopefully I'll have a build thread up soon.

That envelop was pushed years ago, and now is shut. Back in the day my old 800 rwp GT2 was a big dog. Those days are over as 1000 rwhp is the minimum to get into the game (Houston is the roll on capital of the Universe).
The fact is, our platform, as great as it is, simply cannot effectively put down as much power as the TT Lambos (1500 and up) and GTR's.
OK, I will try and give a serious answer.
I have not been around much lately, and thus cannot judge the current iteration of this forum, but I can tell you why it was so great years ago.
We had lots of smack talk...just like today, but back then, guys who did not like each other would actually meet and run.
You had guys like Jamie who would trailer his car and drive across the country just for a roll on. Every one knew about it, there was lots of drama.
Every year at the Supra Nats here in Houston, it seemed like half of the guys from 6speed would attend, get in on the late night roll ons that were usually filmed and ended up as friends.
The people I met and the fun I had are memories I will always treasure.
Today, as many have moved on, either away from this scene or onto the faster platforms, the environment changed. The new cars are so powerful that street racing has moved onto an airfield.
In any event, I will always have fond memories of 6speed.
6Speed has almost always been slow during the winter. Most forums are really due to most northern states with cars on hibernation and therefore filling their time with stuff they neglected all year (family, work, etc.) I typically go where the most action (I.E. Bench Racing) is. Right now it's Corvette Forum.
Or I'd bet many times people stop by to see what's going on and see nothing relevant, so they let more time pass before coming back, then more time, then more time.
We had a core group of people that kept the action going around here before. That has really dissipated as people have moved on to different cars, forums, other hobbies, interests and so on.

I think car enthusiasts in general have shrunk since the economy went south. That was about 6 years ago and many folks are still recovering. Those that were in their early 20s during the heyday of the car scene were hit hard and possibly still under water. Anyone that was just getting their license at the time would be around 22-23 right now and never really knew what it used to be like.
DC Metro used to have a massive group of car enthusiasts. There were a ton of shops around that ran from simple bolt on tuner shops up to full race fab. 80% of those have closed down now and the rest are holding on.
Its all about disposable income and, right now, there isnt as much of that floating around. I like that there is a re-emphasis with the manufacturers for sports cars and I hope that will bring some more entry level ones to the states for kids to pine over. As much as I joked about the ricer kids, cars like the Integra, Civic SI, 240zx, and Eclipse were great little cheap cars for them to start out in.
End sermon...

All good points and there are still some cheaper Audis and Porsches along with the Asian cars for entry level enthusiasts to spring board into the more expensive rides. The economy did hit some harder then others and still not that great in my opinion. I would think the newer car forums would be more active as there is more to explore as far as mods and diys. The 996tt is getting old and in my opinion will be less modded in the future as a whole and more so kept as a stock car= at least that is the norm for the higher end cars.
