K16 Turbo Upgrade

Hi all,

I have just acquired a 2003 Turbo w/ Tiptronic transmission. It has ceramic brakes, gemballa tune and exhaust with 100 cell cats. From what I have read, the gemballa package is very conservative. Before this car I had a 2005 Turbo S 6 speed with Giac, Bmc filter and cargraphic exhaust (cat less.) I would like to be at a comparable power rating as this car or possibly quicker (as powerful as the tip can manage) and am considering the 911 tuning Stage 3 package with upgraded intercoolers, K16 turbo upgrade, and catless exhaust. I have written this summary with 3 questions in mind. Is this turbo upgrade equivalent to the stock turbos on my 05 Turbo S? Can the Tip trans handle the load of the stage 3 package? Does anybody on this board have any experience with Any of 911 tuning's products? I am open to hearing other options as well from other vendors you all may have used on this board. I would like to make 550-600whp if possible. Thanks for any help in advance.

Regards,
Chris

You're in good hands with marek at 911tuning.

I think you ll be surprised. It seems the k16 billets are a "better" street turbo than k24.

By better I mean you'll notice more of the benefit around town driving. I think you're headed the right direction

I can't comment on the strength of the tippy though.

Thanks for the input guys, I am definitely looking for a turbo that has quick spool up down low versus something that would be more appropriate for a mile long shoot out. I am still interested in hearing any experiences from anybody else that has done a turbo upgrade on a tip.

If you hit those awhp goals budget a transmission rebuild into the equation. I'm running k16/16g intercooler upgrade, injectors and tune and Trans is now off getting"built" as it couldn't handle the power long before it started to slip and limp mode. Markski will treat you right. Great tuner and no better customer service.

Thanks for your response. It sounds like your mods are very similar to what I have in mind. How much whp are you running currently? I was concerned a tranny build would be necessary. I know somebody with billets who's car wouldn't shift 2-3. Who do you reccomend for the tranny build? I heard a lot of people use protomotive for tip builds. What do I need to budget for, 6-7k? Thanks

I'm using rennhaus in FL thru vivid racing . There are a few good builders but do a search and you'll find several options. I don't want to recommend until I get mine back and test it. Budget $8k to cover install and misc unless you're doing it yourself.

keep the tranny fluid fresh just like any other automatic tranny....
with all the heat you'll end up boiling the tranny fluid....and wear out/burn clutch packs....basically change the fluid every year
hard hitting k16 billets is no problem
