Hard to second guess this one. Markski tuned it, sold it, customer tweaked it, it blew up. Honestly my first reaction was that running pump on an E85 tune was all kinds of bad because of ignition tuning but I stopped and thought about how rich it would be. I think that's an experiment I'd rather just avoid and perhaps take it as a lesson to be careful and use a sensor for alcohol content. End of day I think we can all agree E85 is a decent fuel for performance when tuned right and it seems we all recognize that the pumps aren't reliable. I have exactly ONE E85 station ten miles from me and I've already seen at least one mention of their content not always being what's on the pump - I'll use a sensor and deal.

Since we're talking about it - anyone ever seen the dreaded "black gunk" from running E85? Some Midwest folks have mentioned it on some forums, some sort of combustion residual that can build up on the injectors. I even saw a forum post where one guy was sending it out for analysis. Doesn't happen everywhere, it's like some refiner somewhere has something goofy going on and it shows up in some parts of the country. I won't be running it all the time and am not concerned but it sure seems to point out that fuel quality isn't something to be taken for granted!

I noticed this for the first time while building the fuel system. Apparently running regular pump gas every so often helps dissolve it.

just my .02 cents,

You can either run some pump gas, or use a fuel lubricant -- I use this stuff (http://www.powerpluslubricants.com/toplubes.html) $12 for 100/gal of straight E85.

I've used Klotz in the past as a lubricant with methanol, might even still have some around. Any chance that using it in the gas might foul the catalytic? The forums I read discussing this mentioned that straight premium gas did help keep it clear but the source of it seemed a mystery since it doesn't happen everywhere (shrug). We really ought to just start an E85 thread to discuss the in's out's tricks and tips lol
