Excessive brake dust?

Went for a spirited drive today. When I got back home, I noticed what looked like sand on the wheels?! Wiping it off with my finger, it seems black. So, I assume it's brake dust. I never really noticed that before but then again, my old wheels were so dirty on the inside, I may not have seen it. Didn't see anything on the front though but those pads are much newer in case it would matter. Is that normal?!

All normal. You can check for different brake pad set ups thru EBS, Hawk and others if you want less dust.

Thanks! Not too big of a deal; I just hadn't noticed it before. Once I'm due for new brakes, I may try something different.

Ck986 is infamous around these parts
I noticed more brake dust coming from my TT than my Boxster. I attribute it to the cross drilled rotors wearing more pad material away.

not looking to reinvent the wheel but i can't stand the brake dust!! i drive 50 miles down twisty road on my way to the monthly exotic car show. by the time i get there i spend the better part of 30 minutes cleaning the dang wheels!! on my amg i ran akebono pads with almost zero dust. it was clear dust and much more manageable

I used to run PBR Deluxe on my BMW (Axis now I believe) and run Akebono on our SUV. Both are indeed very low dust.

If they have them for our turbo, I may try it. Or maybe go to slotted rotors instead; many people like those better than cross drilled anyway. Not sure how much easier they are on pads though.

It must get progressively worse when the pads get lower. The front was dirty but didn't have all that dust sitting on the inside of the wheel. The front pads only have about 5k on them.

no akebono for the fronts. rears only and they aren't the problem.

I have akebono with slotted rotors on my Audi and I would rate the brake dust as lower then most I've had.
