Steering angle sensor failure? Front brakes lock up....Abs/psm failure

So I pulled the code and it says Steering angle sensor failure.

From slow rolls when I turn the wheel the front brakes lock up and then psm abs failure comes on.

Should I just replace the sensor? Anyone else see or have this before??

Get access to Durametric and get it recalibrate. The new version 6 can do this task….If you replace the sensor you will have to calibrate anyway,,,,

Yea Ill do that tomorrow then. Just don't understand how that sensor would lead to front brakes locking up for a little, only at slow speeds and once it throws the code it goes away.

In fact difficult to understand. But the PSM is getting informations from the wheel speed sensors, acceleration sensor (yaw and lateral acceleration) and steering sensor. May be a condition is triggering this fault because of a faulty steering sensor. I never done the calibration but saw this task on the PSM menu of Durametric. Give it a try and give us some feedback!

Interesting and gave me reason to bone up on how things interact, I would guess speed sensor. Look forward to seeing what the issue is.

I was looking at some informations about this steering sensor. You will found the calibration in the repair manual page 355 (read it carefully, there is something about safety code) (it does not mean the Durametric method is the same) and the removal installation is at page 799. The part number seems to be updated for latest cars but yours being a 2004 you should have the modified one already (should be 996-606-119-00, $256.00 !)…. Good luck, I'm anxious to read about the result! Thanks!

I called up for the part and its $750........thats wholesale cost. Don't know where you found it for 256??

Even when you run that part number I see as high as 1300 bucks.
