First 911 Turbo!
OP - congrats and enjoy it and the new SPEED
Well... That was short lived.
The pre-purchase inspection revealed hydraulic issues in the clutch-assist and rear spoiler. About $4100 to fix and the mechanics don't have time to start working on it until Monday.
Spoke to dealer, he wants to think about whether he's selling it as-is or fixing it and he's going to call me back. In my mind, the deal's probably off.
Bummer, but thank the stars for PPIs!
On to the hunt for the next one!
Thanks for all the warm welcomes to this 996TT board in 6speed... hopefully I'll be back soon!

If its the slave/accumulator that's something that you may be able to do yourself. There are stop leak bleeds that have been done to rams for repair of leaks= not saying forever lol. A good indy could probably repair cheaper. Just saying in case the car was something you really liked,
you have actually found a great deal to bargain with. slave /accumulator is about 500$ in parts and a couple hrs labor. the spoiler can repaired with a eBay ram kit thats about 150$ and keeps the spoiler either up or down position. or you could easily swap out the deckled for a gt2 version or gt3rs for less.
ill be in vegas sat to close the deal on my porsche. if you want we can meet up for lunch and you can see some options for modding( this car is 900 hp) and i can take you by a shop in your backyard that can fix anything you need. pm me your cell and ill call when i land
#1 and 2 are what you need to replace
http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=702-09
this fixes the spoiler until you decide what you want to do. theres actually a guy on rennlist building an electric setup that replaces the hyd altogether. its in beta testing now
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-996T...4019f8&vxp=mtr
both of these can be done in your driveway or garage if you have simple handtools metric wrenches and some jack stands and a jack

I appreciate all the advice on the DIY and EBay Ram Kit, the mechanic who did the PPI said pretty much the same thing. However, the hydraulics were the 2 major issues, there were a few other minor ones that I was notified "should be done soon" and/or "might make it a bad idea for a daily/near daily driver.
In the end, the dealer was willing to fix the hydraulics if I was willing to guarantee (put down a large deposit) that I'd 100% buy it... Having never driven the 996TT, that's just something I wasn't ready to do on an unseen car that I don't really know. If my comfort level with the 996 and my mechanical abilities were higher, I probably would have taken a different path.
In the end, I spoke to my Gold Meister cousin (sent him the PPI) and he pretty much said the same thing... take a pass on this one, keep my eyes open, and another will come along.
In the meantime, I can work on increasing my comfort levels by reading the forums and talking to people who have them.
32Krazy - sending you a PM now, Thanks.

it simply isn't so. my spoiler is fixed for 4+ years now with 50cents of lucas stop leak and pentosin and the clucth issues are so common we can now repair the accumulator in the dark with the car on jackstands.
OP PLEASE listen to steve. all that stuff was retail quotes designed to prepare you for future ********.

The last 911 I drove was a '72 E, and that was quite a while ago.
I'm not in a hurry to buy a car, I've been looking for one for a while now and waffle between air-cooled and liquid-cooled engines anyway.
Anyhow, another will come along someday and it might even be better.
I appreciate your input (along with everyone else's). Based on it, I've downloaded some of the service manuals for the 996 and I'm starting to read them so my comfort level goes up when the next deal comes along.
In the meantime, I see he's raised the list from $55K to $57K, so it's still there if anyone wants it!
Cheers,

i appreciate your dilgence, it's certainly more than i did when i first got mine. i was turning in a bmw and on the lot was a guards red tip which i thrashed around the block a few times figuring out those infernal steering wheel buttons while calculating the closest porsche dealer lol. turns out they had a terrifically clean low miles x50 car which i cpo'd and drove off in
i had 4 911's and an immolated 914/6 in my past so i wasn't concerned about their drivability of them for daily use, and we arrive at the "turbo" in our own way, but please find a good one, have it looked at for the obvious stuff, and welcome to the madness!
it has the potential for becoming an obsession

Much better and I swear it took 10lbs off that rear wing! No wing malfunction light either anymore.
