I'm making a new thread since it's not really specific to anything to do with the alternator.
-----------------
I could neither get the Y pipe fully disconnected thanks to the N75 hose, and now after the alternator is replaced, I cannot get the Y pipe back in place.
Specifically where the Y pipe meets the throttle body.
Red arrow points to the gap showing the coupler not going onto the TB far enough.
What's the deal with this?
Anyone who has reinstalled the Y pipe, did you start with the coupler attached to the TB and then push the Y pipe into it or start with it on the Y pipe and shove it onto the TB?
-------------
Secondly, the N75 hose looks like it might cause some problems.
Where I have the red arrow pointing to here, does this look like the hose is torn? (which will be a boost leak)
You can zoom in on the picture for a more granular look at the hose area.
Also in this picture, is a good indicator of how far off the Y pipe is as you can see the bolt holes are pretty far apart from where they need to be to secure the pipe.
I spent a solid 2 hours on this by itself, trying to get the Y pipe back on with no luck.
I've searched other threads here about the N75 and Y pipe but haven't found much about getting the Y pipe back on.
Looking for any tips to get it lined up and sealed properly.
Also any elegant solution for the N75 valve. Like, getting a longer piece of hose and extending it so it's not cramped in there?
Do aftermarket Y pipes clear up any of the clutter?
Really wish I could just go maf-less and get rid of a bunch of the mess of hoses in the engine bay...
I do have a boost leak checker and air compressor but as I can't get the Y pipe back on I can't test the N75 fitting to see if it's actually a leak.
That rubber hose is notched for the TB so once it's on..it should stay and the bolt will hold the y-pipe in place. So really the 996TT y-pipe should not be blowing off under boost...as it's designed to be pretty well connected. Here's my new y-pipe MUCH better than factory IMO. I say DO IT!
Make sure you have the worm clamp really, really open so it doesn't catch on the lip. If that doesn't work, try putting the TB side on first and then the Y pipe side.
Yeah I loosened them up a lot originally and moved the screws to the top of the coupler so they didn't fall to the bottom as you can see in the picture.
Anyway, yeah going to go out to the garage here in a minute and try it with the coupler on the TB first.
