Alternator or Voltage Regulator?
I stripped a screw trying to get the VR out, so I had to cut it and break the old one out.. I think I might have gotten something inside the alt... I've spent 30 minutes shakeing and looking but couldn't find anything to come /url]
Just finished installing actually, installation took me longer, getting the alt to sit back in its proper spot wasn't as easy as prying it out. Once i got it situated buttoning it back wasn't too bad, except for getting the N75 hose back on to the Intake, the fuel cooler really gets in the way.
Car started right up and is now holding 14 volts but has a loud ticking noise coming from alternator...I ran it for 20 mintues and voltage stayed just below 14 on the dash, but the noise is noticable.... I'm wondering if a piece of plastic is stuck inside.. I have not tried to drive it

first congratulations on tackling those those items yourself. bad news is i too hear what sounds like the missing piece of "plastic" from whatever got stripped? that sucks man,.. dont know what i would try to do beyond another r&r!? but that's exactly why i woulda gone new from jump st.
As I was taking the old VR out, I didn't apply enough pressure and the soft metal screw wouldn't budge and the phillips head stripped. I applied more pressure on the second screw and it broke free easy, but I had to break and chip away at the plastic around the first screw to get the VR out, I used a needle nose. Once all the plastic was removed, the screw came out by hand. I bought an almost identical one at the hardware store and replaced it when I put the new VR in. But I think I got a piece of plastic inside.
Hopefully it will wear out over time, I'll give it a couple of weeks, if it doesn't go away I guess another R&R is in my future...
i think you were right to try it because you could get in there an r&r it yourself! it's just bad luck that got ya this time. probably the first time that screw was ever budged since install, and you were just the lucky one. i also would really try to locate and remove that piece of plastic or piece of whatever it is! good luck with it.
Well I went out with it on Saturday, I'm not sure if either I got used to it or its going away but I don't notice it really especially compared to when I initially heard it in the garage. Within the garage it was evident there was a rattle-like ticking coming from the alternator area.Saturday went for maybe 15-20 minute drive and I couldn't notice it while driving, pulled up to the driveway and its barely noticeable with the engine noise now.
I had to go outta town Sunday so next weekend I'll see if I notice after being away a week.
I'll keep you updated, but the voltage is definitely stable at just under 14v on the dash.
So far the voltage issue is fixed and the car ran excellent.
On a side note, I think my N75 valve to the Intake may have been disconnected, while pulling the Intake pipe off, I didn't have to touch the hose, after I put it down, i realized that I didn't touch the n75, not sure if it came off while i wiggling the intake pipe off or if it was disconnected from the start.
My car was making 1.0 bar before my epl tune and 1.1 after, I suspected it was tuned.
I ordered and installed a new n75 valve and zip tied the hoses during install.
Now i have been able to make 1.2 on the EPL tune after re installing the alternator, and it definitely pulls much better. At first I thought the ecu just was zero'd out with no fuel trim or other saved history from pulling the battery, but now I'm wondering if it was hitting 1 bar because the n75 was unplugged...
Is pulling or plugging the n75 hose to the intake a free easy mod to get more boost?
