EVOMS 660 tip?
Listen to BHT. This car in question has had a "tuned" trans not a built trans. They are strong but there is a limit. Ask me how I know this which by the way is turning into an $8k lesson (at least the new one is supposed to handle 1000hp). My car only makes about 500whp btw.

I have an '04 TT Cab with Tip and the Evoms ECU, Exhaust, MAF upgrades along with the upgraded TCU Software. Engine is putting out in the 550hp. Work was done in April of 2010 (5 years) and has had about 20k miles put on it since. No issues whatsoever. When researching this I found out that the TIP in the 996 TT is the same )except for ours is 4 wheel drive) transmission as in the SL65 which of course has far more power/torque than what I'm getting. Apparently the TIP can take almost 1,000 foot pounds of torque!

I wouldn't agree. Also ask black horse turbo who has a ton of experience pushing the Tip to the limit. I would also look at the aftermarket and see that they upgrade the trans to handle 1000hp, so I would feel comfortable saying the stock one can't handle that power. Just my personal experience. Clutches gave out at just over 500 whp.
not sure how much tq you were running but that's not the only factor...it's the tuning/tuner
the sweet spot for this platform is btw 500 and 600 whp ( pick a number. ). beyond that you're tempting fate with stock internals. that should should also apply to the transmission whether it's a tip or a manual... and yeah, if anyone here would know more definitively, it would be have to be todd at proto. but evoms tip trans software upgrade while a must have for anyone with a mid level 996tt, surely isn't "designed" ( programmed/expected, whatever ) to go much over 600whp for long.

i don't and in point of fact, really have no business commenting as i've never owned a tip, and I've only driven a couple. but if it were me? i would seek out all re-builders of the benz box and also known and reputable pcar tuner/builders. surely they would be able to point you to definitive and correct advice in direct contrast to what you may or may not get here.
Not crazy torque compared to hp as these are gas not diesel so torque is usually not greatly different. Markski (911 tuning) -super smooth power from 93 Octane tune.
My car fits exactly into what you’re looking at; 2004 Tip with Evoms GT660 kit. I believe my car was the first that this kit was ever put on a Tip back in 2007. So I was the guinea pig in some ways. Evoms had to adjust the tune several times in order to stop the PSM due to torque level the Tip could handle. So the torque on the Tip is significantly lower than 6speed on the 660 kit (just to save the tranny). Before the TCU and a few more upgrades several years ago, my car was dyno’d at 435 ft/lb and 510 awhp. It may not be big to some but more than enough to some; enough to beat a tuned GT-R with straight pipes J.
There is no reliability issue with the 660 kit; I drive the car hard (when my wife is not in the car). Like BHT said, the car drives just like stock but the power is there when you need it. So far, nothing had failed except for the cracked headers happened a couple of months ago which probably caused by hitting the ground on bumps.

^ excellent review. being near first you probably got attention to the car you might not have.
that one mod could well be a night vs day improvement for that g'box, i imagine it would.
it's probably no less significant than a stock vs tuned car.

I have 605 TQ at the crank on Evoms Dyno! I've got around 15k miles on this setup! My transmission is fine! I had an Evoms TCU upgrade and could notice no difference at all with it? There are a lot of Mopar cars with these trannies that are being built up by hot rod shops! I've heard 1000+ HP/TQ Is no problem. Lots of info on the forum if you search for it!
