I've been searching for the right 996tt for over a year now, and I've always looked at 6 speeds, but now have the opportunity to buy an '04 996tt tiptronic with an EVOMS 660 kit with upgraded transmission software at a really good deal. Any reliability issues out there with the tiptronic trans? Anyone have/had one or driven in one and have an opinion on how they drive? Feedback appreciated!

You will get some advice from people better suited on the tip question but wanted to say make sure its the car you want= may pay to wait for a 6spd. Get a good car with maintenance records and have ppi done.

More looking for feedback on reliability and drivability of the tip on the 996tt with Evoms 660 kit, but appreciate the feedback!

Tried that. While info was informative the last thread I found died around 2011. I'm sure there is some more up to date info. Any feedback appreciated!

My car has similar power! Built by GMG and re-tuned by Evoms a couple years ago! Thing has been 100% reliable for me and is very fast from a roll! I put one of the DCT paddle shifter steering wheels on it. Made it much funner to drive. Do you have a link to the car in question?

How long have you had your tip? What turbos and stock trans?

Here's the link.

i would be highly circumspect about a "built" tip, whereas "built" 6spd cars see 700-1000hp
with regularity AND ( relative term ) reliability.

is the tip trans a requirement of your purchasing a 96t?? i just wonder at the wisdom of a built tip, given the inherent limitations of the gbox. but it's just conjecture. but then an advertised "660" evoms w tip is in reality closer to 490/500 crank i would guess. safer.

No. As I mention above I've been looking primarily at 6 speeds. I don't agree with you about 490/500 crank. I think you mean at the wheels.

sorry if my meaning was lost or misconstrued. what i meant was their estimated or even dyno'd *660* would be closer to 490/500 at the wheels but was just guestimated math. i could well be off and have been conservatively guessed at by a few? but not by much?!

"they" always quote crank hp figures, not whp. ergo, a 660 "kit" is closer to the 500 whp. is what i meant, and yes, i misspoke. apologies.

nice looking turbo, If you can go thru full inspection of the car and you like it, why not! so many parts on that car, I think buying 996's now-days- where the car is 10+ years old is a hit and miss, you have to inspect the car in full. dont be afraid to let it loose , when I was buying mine, and inspecting the car,
owner was saying its fine, car is perfect, until I unleashed the beast! car started to missfire, slipping clutch (6spd). well, I still bought the car, because price was right, color and 6spd, with tan interior -> thats what I wanted! I say go for it. or you may not find another deal/car like that.

^ yeah, stuff wears out and rarely is there anything "major" needing to be addressed if anyone was taking even a modicum of care for the car. in fact the clutch is on the high end of what could be in need of replacement as these age. it's the "tip" part that would concern me given the age of the car.

add: but having just re-read johns op, i see it has evoms upgraded software. no telling whether that is a benefit long term or if the maximization of the benzo box is a help or a hindrance? hmm, more to ponder i would imagine.

Driveabilty of a 660 kit will be just like stock. Just don't add any more power if you want a reliable/driveable tip trans.

My EVOMS GT 660 kit dyno'd 550whp. I had it installed when my car had 8K miles and now it has 50K. Just had a new clutch put it. Not even a hiccup. I think it is the perfect kit for reliability.

Thanks. Nothing else with the trans needed replacing?
