BMC in the BIN???? Help PLz
All makes me wonder if there's a corollary between tuned cars with a raised limiter blown mafs and pegging said limiter. Since per bkkmagics explanation I know I have blown out the knock off mafs with a voltage spike.
Wonder what ( if any ) impact the bm or kn has or does NOT have

well haven't you just rebuilt your motor!? so your visitations to 7500 are relatively new to you and your rebuilt motor, no? but either way you "know" more about them than i do obviously. i only know i've had better "luck"?! with mahle paper and a new bosch maf. like i said, it could well be a coincidence that a new bosch maf and the elimination of the bmc coincided? with no more blown mafs. but there's lots of folks use the bmc without any issues. i just figured whats the point of the oiled filter? any gain wasn't significant enough for me to "feel" and i feel the increase in power from an oil change! seriously.
my primary complaint with the bmc really was how filthy it always was. cutting open my air box a la 997 just allowed more grime to enter i suppose. the car's had a cargraphic tune most of its life and is not entirely dissimilar with the 16/24's ( older ones admittedly ) as I've said before from your older setup in that the ruf 550 you used to run is much like what the tuning shop out here originally put in this car. which was state of the art. ten years ago LOL. so i don't LIVE at 7200! but i visit with some degree of frequency, which is how i know that the bosch maf is sturdier than the knockoffs i had been replacing at an alarming rate. but i won't blame THAT on the bmc it was bouncing off the limiter that caused them to pop from the voltage spike. i will always remember tony at epl confirmed that little piece of info, it was that the diode? used in the knockoff 124.00's are NOT the same although they look and fit and feel the same!
for me, it was two different issuees combined, with the same result. blown maf(s). so i use paper and have not had tp switch out a maf since i got a NEW bosch with the shiny brown waxed paper

Current motor redlines 7500, previous RUF motor redlined 7200, visited frequently (range 1s: 30000+, range 2s: 4000+). Same MAF...

congrats.
My car did the same on the DME, and also when loading, ie pulling from low rpm in 5th and 6th, never did sort it just fitted a Syvecs and A28's !!!!! I changed everything I could think of. It may not be a motor issue as there is a problem with either the ABS sensors or part of the loom that can cause this issue. I changed Filters and had 3 new MAFS, all did the same.
Me thinks oiled filters are a bit additive to MAF errors when over oiled. The tuned cars making big boost pulls more air across the filters bringing it excess oil and coating the MAF film surface. Overtime I think the oil maybe doing some damage to the surface. I've blowned a few MAFs over the last few years and they always came from hit redline on my k24/20 tune making lots of boost TOO RAPIDLY. The MAF could not resolve the high flow of air and triggered an error.
All this was with a paper filter. All said and done, I went with the hitachi MAF and have never had a problem since. And I still drive the same.
I'll ad that I use to run Ford turbo diesels trucks making lots and lots of boost, into the 27-30 PSI range using AEM or K&N oiled filters and I use to have to pull my intake piping on a regular basis to clean the tract from filter all the way to turbos to clean the dirt/oil film in it. When I switched to a Donaldson dry filter this was not a problem . Something to be said about these oiled elements when over oiled, they have to go somewhere

Quick update for you guys in case this may help anyone in the future, I have had a OEM paper filter back in the car all weekend and am having no ABS PSM lights and the car is pulling as strong as ever.
So after a full Boost leak test new Maf and N75 valve, which don't get me wrong are all good thinge too refresh anyway, it was removing the BMC and going back to the OEM filter has sorted it.
For now anyway 😁
