Info Request - Lowering car and need for additional suspension pieces

This is in relation to my suspension thread that I am working on. I would like to get some info from those that are running springs or coilovers and at what drop they started to need other suspension pieces such as adjustable toe rods and drop links.

I have seem some people say that they lowered their car and were able to get an alignment to spec without needing additional toe adjustment but never saw how much drop they had. The same for at which point people needed the drop links.

I think this may be some valuable information for those looking to upgrade their suspensions in the future.

BTW - this isnt about other suggested additions such as the locking plates and thrust bushing.

Thanks all for helping me to compile this!

yeah, that would be me, until such time as i was no longer to be able to get enough - camber up front, so i'll need to shave a bit of that adjustment point at the top mount so i can get that .1 or .2 to play with. all it would really take is a dremel or even a file and some exercise might do it lol

as far as rear I've been dropped for years what was first 1.5 inches but is in realty probably closer to 2" which would've obviated the need for toe links such as i finally installed when i refreshed the uppers in front at least! but i lied to myself that the tire wear was normal and of course it was excessive with a -2 drop lol. i am not through my first set of rears yet as I've just scrubbed my new p zeros rear, but it is wearing evenly so far. so I'm at 027 toe in rear and thats a good place for my lowered car to sit

newer springs didn't sag, or need the toe links either...

I installed some KWV1 Coilovers and dropped the ride height a full 2" front and rear using Porsche chassis recommended measuring points for reference. Ultimately I raised up the rear 1/4" for quicker steering and that's where it's been since last year. I researched this well and read everything I could find, I also 2 Porsche senior techs that are friends of mine. I figured I may need some rear adjustable dog bones to get the rear toe and camber exactly where I wanted so I made some.

After the parts install I did a quick rudimentary alignment in the driveway with a square, tape, straight edges etc. I tested the car to 130 MPH and it handled terrific. 2 weeks later I was able to get an appointment with my alignment. I spec'd what I wanted, no track, great tire wear, good handling in the canyons and good straight line stability up to 150 MPH+ and left it up to his expertise.

Everything worked out perfect. Handling is exactly what I wanted, hands free at any speed, quick steering in the twisties (for AWD) no hint of bump steer ever, very confidence inspiring no matter the type of driving.

Ohlins DFV, 20mm drop (shock mfg recommendation), only used tarret f/r drop links with 0 degree. No issues with alignment

When you did the install, do you feel that the drop links were a must with 20mm drop or just good to have? Im trying to be as specific as possible.

Thanks!

Here's my thought: If you are going to do this, you should get the adjustable drop links. Could mine have supported the oe links ? probably but it severely limits me in the future for any unforeseen modification or any other alignment issues. Having the adjustability gives me flexibility without additional labor or time later on. Its easier to do when the whole thing is apart than putting them in afterwards

i can't imagine how difficult putting on other connecting bits can be after being under the car a few times? but its hard to imagine not needing the toe links if the car is seriously lowered. merely as the stock pieces dont allow for the alignment "we" néed once lowered.

seems to me that a rear sway and toe links should be the first things esp if just lowered on springs. i dont have coil overs so that may/may not involve all the other adjustment drama. i just dont need it. i have plant, no body roll to speak of and i'm 2" lower than stock with no adverse tire wear. thats all i would care about.

No track time yet. I will say handling is superb at a slight compromise to noise and a little of ride comfort at cruising speeds. At fun speeds and above, it is much more confident . With my setting at 15 which is in the middle, on washboard pavements at triple digit speed, car is not drivable you have to slow down. I can soften and add about 4-5 more clicks on the shocks and the washboard are better
It was suggested to run 10-12 clicks on track days and 17-20 clicks for every day.
That being said, 15 clicks will be where she remains for now, 20 was a little soft.

I do hear more suspension chatter compare to stock .
The only regrets I have is ride height. Sure she looks good but what havoc with my front lip and also my exhaust. I lost 20mm of clearance of the bottom mufflers. I'm in contact with Chris @ unobtanium welding to fab me a set that would give me clearance back there.
