Yet another engine compartment fan question......
Yet another engine compartment fan question......
Hey Guys......2003 turbo, tip......engine compartment fan used to be "off" while driving (unless it reached proper temps, and came on as expected). I disconnected the battery for two weeks (to have steering wheel converted to paddle shifters), connected the battery, now the engine compartment fan comes on when I start the car, and runs all the time.....which is ok, I guess....Did a search, some people seems to come on with the key, some do not. Do we have a definitive answer to this?....should it come on with the key?.....I have no fuse in the #5 slot for this option by the way.
Thanks for all the help!

for certain it isn't supposed to enable at startup. whether it runs while driving at hi temps I wouldn't know as i've never been back there. the only thing i'm sure of after a couple of these cars is that when the engine temp is hi enough, and the car is shut off, the fan will go on for awhile. sometime it'll go off, then begin again and finally shut down for good. never heard it startup up more than twice ever.

Lots of facts and info on the Renntech forum. Two fuses, with both in, supposed to come on 1 sec after key in (or start up, can't remember), when fuel pump kicks on. With only one fuse, only comes on if temp sensor is hot, near top pulley at PS pump. And yes, it blows air into the engine compartment, not out the grill.
Mine will run two cycles after shutting down. Car is off fan kicks on in less than 5 mins, runs for about 5 minutes shuts off and repeats the cycle. It catches me off guard sometimes, I'll be in the backyard and hear it in the garage and wonder what I left on. If I turn the car on fan immediately shuts off.
Now i'm confused: how actually fan should kick in. from the posts it looks like every car does its own thing. also i forgot to check does the fan/air should actually hit the motor or blow hot air outside? take for example custom (home computer) Case: you have intake/fan in front that suck the air in, and you have exhaust in rear/fan to spit hot air outside----

I just checked mine this morning, started car and went to check and the fan was running.
Its also 85 degrees and I had the battery disconnected over the weekend.
the fan definitely blows air into the engine bay, however I'm curious as to how the air flow under the car is.
