GT3 sway bars setting , help.
GT3 sway bars setting , help !!
I am rebuilding the suspension on my car with new parts : shocks, mounts etc....
I am about to fit some 996 GT3 sway bars front and back. What is the best setting to start with ? I am running stock suspension. I would like to reduce the roll at the front and reduce understeer a little bit too.
I bought some Rennline curved drop links for the front . Is the front GT3 bar fits fine ?

would help to indicate which bar you have as some are 4 way and some are five way.
yes, the rl droplinks should help but iirc you could use the oem links with a front gt3 sway though no one does they need to be shortened. this is about the baddest oem you're gonna find http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...SUSSHK_pg4.htm
though rear gt3 sway can indeed run the oem drop links, and will stiffen up the ride considerably. it's an incredibly smart bang for the buck minimal suspension mod. here's the euro for a street car. also badd a** • Rear swaybar GT3 street 21mm 4 way adjust - 996 333 701 90
what kind of bars are you getting oem? or h&r/gmg, what? that'll help the smarter folks here more room for advice.
I would set the rear bar full stiff. You will need longer drop links int he rear to run the GT3 rear bar at it's stiffest setting.
The first setting is softer than the stock turbo bar and the second setting is about the same as the stock turbo bar for reference.

Thanks for the infos guys. I took all the suspension apart to rebuild it with new parts. It did need it ...
So my rear bar has 4 setting so you recommend to set it on the stiffer setting ? I am about to receive the front one this week , what setting for it ? Is it 5 setting on those ?

..and i would begin with 3 of the 4, near stiffest in the rear. as to front, depends i suppose on what you're trying to do, but an awful lot of folks run just a gt3 bar in the rear and are fine. i run mo30 w a gt3 bar rear, which has me setup similarly to an oem ROW sports suspension which would've been more prominent in uk, but i'm lower by at least another .5 inch.
if you haven't already dropped the 600 bucks i'd go with the rear gt3 bar first, and see how ya like it. it's the rear you need to stabilise, moreso than the front anyway.

Why GT3 bars? Why not adjustable 996TT bars? Especially when going stock suspension, I think it may make more sense to use either H&R or Eibach. They were designed for AWD and the weight bias F to R and also the heavier car and to work with stock drop links too.
It's generally accepted to reduce understeer and push you need only fit the rear bar and I'd start on the lightest setting. Test and go heavier, the holes closer to center, as needed.

I have been wanting to tune out some of that front end push and simply can't lower the car (and be able to get into my SF driveway).
Based on several recommendations, I *just* purchased and installed the GMG adjustable front and rear sway bars.
After a discussion about my driving style and use case, GMG recommended we set the bars up to full soft front and full hard rear which is the most aggressive setting towards neutral/oversteer. I'm very happy to say it's a huge improvement, I had 2 hours out in the canyons over the weekend and the bad understeer is gone. Most of that driving is between 40 and 90 on narrow and fairly tight bumpy roads. I actually had to work pretty hard to break the rear loose....I was concerned that the 'aggressive settings' would be dangerously loose, but that's simply not the case.
If you're not going to do a full suspension upgrade, I'd def. recommend the GMG bars as a worthy and very noticeable upgrade for a stock suspension car.
