Just posting this as an FYI.
Last fall my car started to make a bearing noise in 5th and 6th gear. I went through the google machine and found that this had happened to a few other people and on a couple of them, they mentioned the main shaft nut had come loose and the gears started to slide off the shaft. Well I had the car into a performance shop and they ripped it apart and found exactly that. The main shaft nut had loosened off and some gears were rubbing.. luckily I noticed the problem right away and stopped driving it until I had it looked at. The Damage was minimal to nothing. I had the shifter fork bearing replaced and the nut tightened and everything put back together and the car has been running flawless ever since.

 

Good work getting after sooner than later! I wish I had would have saved a lot.

 

yeah, nice catch. i didn't wait more than a cpl days of a faint whine that wasn't quite right.
