Financing a 996T
you guys are ALL welcome to disagree, all you want. what I have proferred is financially prudent "advice". what you have offered is an anecdotal report of your having been lucky.
no, they are not "ferarri's", they are 10/15 year OLD PORSCHE's and the costs associated with the repairs that WILL be needed ( by MOST ) are commensurate with the marquee and their original costs of ownership!

Nothing is certain other than life is short. Buy it :-)
11K! Hope you did an LS swap! Sorry to hear, man.
agree! I don't think you have, or ever will, read me suggesting they not BUY a 996 turbo. just that they not,... FINANCE! one LOL
Cars are hands down next to drugs and booze the biggest waste of money known to man. I have done well but can say I would be better off if I wasn't inflicted with the car bug. Most younger people would be well advised to buy what you can pay for upfront and put excess money elsewhere. A little garbled but the short meaning is look down the road and think about the future.
au contraire, old chap. I have spent everything I have ever had on booze, women, drugs and cars..
and I wasted the rest
If you are ex military or family of military you can also try USAA.
Regarding financing, everyone's situation is different its your money do what is in your means.
I would just look for a low mileage well maintained car if you decide to finance.
Someone mentioned "what if" the engine blows up... If you live by "what if" you'll never get anything done.
In the two years I've owned mine, I don't think I've spent more than 2k in Maintenance only items.
Most of the money I've spent on the car have been in mods and upgrades (exhaust, wheels, tune, etc.,)

Completely disagree with that comment Whip as there are many chances I took that I would have avoided with some of the maturity and common sense I have now. Oh well no sense of arguing this point we all have a way of justification but there is a learning curve that if not minded will make you sad and broke.
I think everyone is arguing about the wrong thing. Whether you take out a loan or not is just how you deal with your personal finances. I PERSONALLY believe that I would rather have the cash in hand and am willing to sacrifice the 2.XX% on the loan.
That, however, does not mean that I dont have the money to pay for repairs/maintenance if it comes up.
I think the better suggestion is that, this is not the car to buy if you are going to be living paycheck to paycheck and are just budgeting in simple things like oil changes etc. If you can afford the car payment and still have enough disposable cash for the occasional repair that could be in the thousands then go for it.

hey OP! sorry about the contrarian posts and advice. just buy the car, don't listen to me! it makes all the sense in the world to financé a 10/15 year old car. I was just kidding all along!

good luck and enjoy it! they are a lot of relatively expensive fun

12 year old car as a hobby and a 20 year old girlfriend as a "project"
I'm happy as a ( dare I say it ) cleanly shaven clam
