ps reservoir whine fix?

Well, I seem to be haunted by the typical power steering reservoir whine. I can find a million waaaay cooler ways to spend 800ish bucks on my car. Has anyone successfully repaired/modified their reservoir? I'm certainly not being cheap, I'd like to be crafty and fix it with brains instead of throwing parts at it. If this it as at all possible, I'd love to give it a try. If not, can someone fill me in as to why it can't be done?

FYI I've read every thread I could find on this issue, and have not seen anyone attempt to repair as opposed to replacing.

Thanks as always!

most earlier owners were fortunate enough ( i was ) to have the faulty res replaced on porsches dime since the tsb 4897(iirc) lays it all out that it's the bad valve etc. and there never was a "fix" per se, beyond a replacement. i got mine fixed as one of the last laundry list of items i conspired with my dealership to have all repaired during the last cpl months of warranty coverage.

i hated it. was like a tea kettle until the clutch was engaged. nothing more than an annoyance but what an annoyance it was. i'm afraid replacing it is the only way to eliminate it, as I've never read of a fix, but who knows. some enterprising soul might be be able to replace the valve? i'm just not sure it was ever worth the effort, but i agree, theres a million better things to "buy" all because of a whistling valve.

I assume over the years, someone with more brains than money has attempted to sort the issue without the new Res. Whether or not they were successful remains to be said. Maybe I'll take the leap for sh*ts and giggles, and see if I can resolve without replacing. Imagine that, mechanic as opposed to parts changer
