Need clutch suggestions for ~600whp.
Need clutch suggestions for ~600whp.
Hello all,
I'm trying to organize all the parts I need to do a clutch swap. My current setup isn't happy at all.
After the dust settles, I anticipate to be in the ~600whp range. Which clutch do you guys suggest for that power level?
Thanks,
Rich

theres really only a few options when modding. the sachs 2.5 style setup which is cheapest and will hold that level for a while, the carbonates/ats c/f triple disk which is able to handle the power and another 400 hp when you decide to go bigger. operates like a switch on/off at lights takes getting used to. cost is about 3k$ erp triple disk. last clutch you ever buy. holds mega power 4000$+ worth every penny
now sean at silly rabbit is running a 2 disk hilton hydraulic clutch that removes the slave altogether and he has over 1000 whp and he loves it. i haven't ever tried it but it is another option. i think 3000$ range.
and lastly theres a member on here with a new exedy triple disk for sale on the forums. says it is what ams uses on there car.i don't know of anyone running this but it is another option.

agree. for 600 and not having to reconsider it for the *normal* life span of the discs, the sachs 2.5 IS the time honored way to go without getting into madness, esp if you opt to stay with the dmfw.
as for my rwd car w safely say 575rwhp i opted for simply the oem sachs with a gt2 disc, one step below the sachs 2.5 but more than adequate for my usage, as i dont launch or drop the clutch and i actually dbl clutch a lot and more than necessary ( is it EVER necessary he asks rhetorically ).
i spent a grand and a cpl bucks extra for the tougher gt2 disc. i NEVER "OVERpart" my car, rather i get what i *need*, and it suits my clutch needs to a t. for 575 whp++? or 600 ( though the oem w gt2 disc WILL handle 600 rwhp if one is using the clutch the way it ws intended( lol ) i too would go sachs 2.5. alternately and to anticipate the possible upgrades and clutch requirements of any future + power goals? just get pwdrhounds setup in his sig line: 764 pp etc etc.
again, though.. mine was a GRAND! to replace parts, and a cpl hrs labor. that's it.

Fwiw. I like my clutch now that I have the gt2 hydraulics.
Kevin at umw helped me select it.
Oem dm fw, clutch masters 3. (I think it works out to a modified pressure plate and the fiver tough disc)
You'd have ask him but it works well for my car.

I have a SPEC I mine(installed by previous owner)...it will be coming out and a Sachs setup going in(unless the disc is the obvious cause-I don't know for sure which one it currently has, but think a unsprung puck- and the PP can be re-used with a milder disc)...very harsh/aggressive engagement, PO had it installed and very soon after sold the car because it wasn't 'driveable' anymore...
Fantastic on the track, horrible on the street/traffic
