Im curious now about the wavtrac unit. I'd be in for doing this over the winter. How did you manage to break it though?

Couple things to help traction. If you were going to do a different coil-over, definitely go ohlins. I'd also rake the car forward, lifting the rear.

These cars squat a lot, and lift the fronts. If you had more rake maybe you would get less lift in the front.

Instead of stand-alone (Im not a fan of pro-efi anyways, motec is 1000x better with more options), how about considering the Plex Tuning PBC Pro boost controller? It has boost by gear, rpm, speed and weather conditions/temps. You can pull a lot of boost out in first and second.

As far as the diffs go, I've never even heard of a guard lsd failing. I know so many guys who flog the hell out of their cars on the track and the diff never has any trouble. Thats something compared to the oem diff going out in 5 track days...

+1 for Guards, the rebuild isn't much more than the wavetrac.

Correct. So when the power comes on and the rear squats, the car is level under acceleration. I did this to my car (800hp), and it made a world of difference in stability during acceleration.

The rear is already lifted and the car is raked. I have done everything I can with what I currently have.......I may go smaller rim and more tire in the rear next season after talking to Mickey Thompson today about their choices.......

John I have never heard of a wavetrac breaking. The parts around the wavetrac broke but not the unit. When you are at the track ask the corvette guys what they run. I think the answer will surprise you

Realize my and my buddy's wavetrac a were in s/c v6 w/ irs and launching hard on drag radials. The ring gear wasn't up to the task

having an independent rear suspension and hard launches is murder on a diff. the pinion gear on my mercedes amg just couldn't handle a yrs worth of launches with drag radials (255/50-15) the diff held up the gears didnt

its also about what 10,000$ more for a full motec setup?

since the wavetrac carries a lifetime warranty I'm guessing the cost is substantially more since you don't pay for a wavetrac rebuild

The diff does such a good job transferring torque to the loaded wheel that I've broken 2 rear hubs over the last year. I keep joking about asking Guard to pay for them... If you are a track rat and serious about the best diff out there go with a clutch type LSD like the Guard of the PMNA Cup diff. Ramps and preload are your choice on the Guard. The billet Guard has a forged chromoly body while the Porsche diff is cast. For street use and straight line the Guard or Cup diff is probably overkill and the wavetrack torque bias diff is an economical choice that offers a lot of benefit over an open diff. Many here run those and like them. You will not find a TBD on any competitive race Porsche however, they will all have LSDs for good reason.

If there are reports of several Wave tracks TBDs breaking as posted by 32Krazy, that would give me serious pause in choosing said diff. I am not aware of a single failure on Guard billet diff and they are used in the harshest environments out there. It would be a real bummer to grenade a gearbox or even the R&P due to a bum diff that gives up the ghost. Such happened with the Gikken diffs when they tried to break (no pun intended) into the Porsche market and experienced a number of documented failure$ causing a lot of carnage. They never really recovered from that and you will be hard pressed to find those on Porsches now. Lifetime warranty is great but I would rather spend a little more and choose a product without a record of failures. Spending a little more up front sometimes turns out a lot cheaper in the long run. That's just me however but I'm hard on equipment and look at things a little differently than most....and I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.
economical doesn't mean cheap. heres what a wavetrac is made of 9310 steel gears run in case-hardened billet or forged steel bodies. ARP® fasteners used throughout.

i find it implausible that a guard unit has never failed. in fact since it requires a regular rebuild i find it more plausible that it will fail if not maintained which adds even more cost. I'm sure its a high quality unit .personally i haven't heard or seen a failed wavetrac. i would like to see the data form someone who has experienced this firsthand. this particular forum lends itself to more straight-line racing than road racing. in that application the wavetrac wins hands down. honestly most folks had never even heard of the wavetrac before i installed mine. its a high quality reasonably priced tbd that fits a slot that previously was filled by more expensive units that weren't designed for this type of racing. also there aren't a large # of road racing porsches that sport 1000 hp motors.
