Am I missing something? I was looking for a rattle and found it. It was the pollen filter. The forward left part of it is loose and can move up and down...Do you have a cover on yours? The clip on the right side of the picture is not holding anything....I was looking at the removal and installation and they are talking about an antenna for the phone on top of the filter....But I don't have this option...My filter simply rest in a plastic housing of the a/c but not tight.... Any idea?

Note: The aluminium tape is now holding it in place....

 

nothing else on mine. my filter does have a plastic piece on the drivers side of the filter than seems to snap into place. its very snug in the filter housing

 

I guess my filter needs to be replaced because the foam at the base lost his elasticity....Thanks a lot for checking Steve...

I have the same plastic piece that 32 mentions, I'm sure you checked diagrams.

 

Hum...That's all I got and this clip never touch the filter when latched???? I'm confused I'm wondering if I got the proper filter in there ????

 

theres a white plastic frame that goes under that clip. its part of the filter

 

It looks like the filter isn't seated properly. It should fit flush in the housing.

Also, the clip that holds the filter isn't snapped into place.

 

cabin filters are pretty sad setup on these cars, they don't fit 'nice'...that said yours is definitely sitting wrong JP...IIRC, the Mann filters fit a lot nicer than the Mahle's in this case...

plastic piece is on each end of the filter. the black plastic clip on the housing snaps over it

 

Thanks a lot for your help guys! Thank you for the picture Steve and also for taking the time to take your filter off... I definitively have the wrong type of filter installed.... Went to check if I had a new one in stock and in fact the new one I got is a little bit different but seems to be not thick enough to be able to clip it....But the filter is more snug in the housing....Strange set up.....The new one is a Rein and the old one is a Mann....I give up It will do his job of filtering and little bit of tape will prevent the filter from jumping up and down in the housing...

 

mine is a very tight fit. i actually have to crush the drivers side a bit to get to slide into the housing.(you can see the folds in the pic) once its in it doesn't move. don't know eBay filter i bought when i got the car charcoal filter like 16$

 

Thanks again Steve. I will have to live with it since I bought my filters from Pelican on December 23 2010 and paid $14.00 for them!!! I did not have that problem with my Datsun 510 in 1974

I was thinking you had an extra piece, which I'd never seen before on any 996/986, nor did PET have anything... makes sense
Also agree, the filter install isn't pretty on these cars.
