Any Comments on Unichip ECU Upgrade?

Does anybody have any experience with the Unichip ECU upgade?

http://www.unichip.us/unichip_home.asp

There is one for sale on Rennlist and would like to do my homework.

It is a piggyback computer versus the GIAC & PSI which is flashed. Just curious.

TIA for your responses.

Perfomance Products has it listed as a "new product" in its latest catalog. I though I remember reading on the board it has been around for quite some time though.

They are hit and miss as far as gains. They also will not make it to a 600HP. They start to have issues about 520-550 TRG is no longer the supplier and have not been for several years. In fact UC pulled out and has a different owner and focus. They deal a lot with the WRX and EVO crowed. I have been approached by them and chased them out of my shop. They have no concerns with check engine lights, harnesses or other.

GIAC software and other companies, other companies do not offer any switching in and out of programs. GIAC is the only true mainstream product that does this. They also do not have the dealer network to support the product no matter where you are at. Fundamentally all the GIAC programs are developed and built on personal cars such as my own and various other tuners. Most companies do not own nor test products on their own cars. We do. In fact when looking at the numbers the GIAC network has tuned my Porsche computers than any of the companies combined. That should speak volumes.

We use the same sort of approach, we have dedicated cars just for R&D,

You mean PSI does in Europe, you don't there? If I recall as well as various customers you don't have a personal Porsche or a dyno in house either.

See the difference is when you own these cars and drive them every single day, rain snow or shine then you have a clearer understanding of how the car responds to everything. Tear apart the motors in house and rebuild them and inspect the problem areas. This is far more then buying a car for R&D. Buy a car to drive for ever, and then modify it so it can be used the way you would like it. Package that and sell that experience and knowledge. Little things get changed like dip in and TR. You can't experience that driving a car for 3 weeks then coming out with a program.

There are some things you can't get. It is like trying to explain what turkey dinner smells like, you have to live it. I experience something that needs to be changed, the car goes on the dyno and the program gets tweaked again. We update the files and the rest is history. It is a passion, not just a clerking position.

Stephen you are correct I do not own a 996tt ,nor do I have a dyno as for the other remarks you are way off.

You can attack myself & PSI all you want,I'll just let the product talk for it's self.

Other remarks? Not really Neil. Toting a dyno made in Belgiumn is not real information. Nor helpful. People on these boards want facts, not something that was emailed to you. How many Porsches have you actually tuned? How many have you driven for 100K miles modified? Facts sir, real time information.

No one is attacking you or PSI sir. See as a Tuner and an engine builder I posses certain knowledge. So while I might suggest a product from time to time 95% of the time I am here to help. I do not abuse my right by simply minded retorts toting a product that I do not have the knowledge to support. You constantly blast these boards with your blovating with no real intent to help nor facts. If you have the worlds greatest product then am a very glad for you. It falls under the category there is always someone faster. That is great! I honestly mean that. The world loves competition. Try running to your local dyno and put one of these steeds up there. Instead of constantly PMing and spamming people, send the world proof. You are not a shipping manager for Rook any more. If you are going to sit on these boards then do it with dignity and help. You already have been removed from Rennlist for unethical practices.

Several years ago the Unichip was the cutting edge. Back then EVO/GIAC was struggling to make 500 rwhp. Since then I believe EVO/GIAC has made the Unichip obsolete as far as the 996tt goes. We were never able to obtain more than about 532 rwhp from the Unichip without issues. I believe TRG saw the writing on the wall. Stephen's above comments are pretty much spot on.
