Question on difference in turbos??

I am a newbie to turboed cars.

Bought an 04 996tt with some mods and wondering what the differences are in some turbos.

My car has Garrett GT28r turbos on it with custom headers and a europipe exhaust. 4 bar fpr 72 lb injectors. AMS wastegate actuator upgrade. Car was Dyno-tuned by EPL on site.

The car regularly boosts to 1.5 bar on gauge. It's a rocket ship. So to my question.

How do these turbos compare to stock k16's, Billet K16, k24's, and others I see regularly discussed on here?

Some mods? That's an understatement. The GT28's in my biased opinion are better than any of the 3 turbos you mentioned. They spool early and keep going up top. Careful if you have stock internals because they have been known to bend rods on high boost. 1.5bars is quite high but the tune might be set to hold back a bit of torque in the low end to save the rods. If it's been consistently driven that hard then you should be ok.
Congrats, nice find, post some pics.

It's been driven for at least 20000 miles with all that work done. I think they have it at 500 whp and 500 ft lbs of torque.

Right on. I think the one guy who bent rods was really pushing the limits with the tune and boost. Consensus is these motors are good up to ~650hp before needing beefed up rods and head studs.
However, for piece of mind, it might not be a bad idea to get a durametric cable and every once in a while log your air, fuel, and timing to make sure everything is staying safe.

HI,, Great Turbos. Better then the ones you mentioned.
They do hit hard down low ,,Tony probably mapped the program out not to load it at low RPMs with boost so not to be in rod bending territory..
I run 1.4 bars which I feel safe and make 600 rear wheel HP, no rod bending problems but my 18g turbo doesn't hit as hard down low as yours, thats where you would have been concerned about.

If your car is on pump gas I would be somewhat concerned running 1.5 bar... mind you, 1.5 bar is the max the dash shows, what if its running more... Im not going to tell you what your car should run boost wise on the a28s, but I never go past 1.25 bar on pump gas on stock rods... but that is me...
FYI, A28s with lots of boost- 1.5 bar plus, is a ticking bomb. Most fo the guys who blow stock motors up do it on a28s with lots of boost... pump gas...
maybe you should log the car... and if I were you I would do it like yesterday before its too late
good luck,
markski

PS. turbos are good lots of TQ.... they are %400 brand new so hard to compare to oem k16 or 24s....
