That's what I was figuring, that these were the old size (even though I just bought 'em from ecs)...I figured the biggest the tabs could be was the thickness of the housing itself.

^that is old style.
Porsche isn't alone I think almost all coil packs are revised over the years. It's not even contained to just cars. Last year I changed coil packs on a Mercury 300XS outboard on my boat and it turns out there was a billion revisions on those coil packs too

Any Porsche number is fine, buy away...if you happen to get the newest tall coils, buy m6x40mm bolts to match, done.
When I was working on my Supra we had issues with coils. I first when to LS coils, then motorcycle coils - mostly because I could get them DIRT cheap and they held up terrific to high cylinder pressure. You know what I was to,d would be the next step up? Mercury Marine coils - boat environment is apparently pretty harsh and the coils are really good. My fingers are crossed I don't go through too much crap with this car's ignition as my Suora was quite the science experiment! Hilarious to goto the race track a month or three after telling folks about the motorcycle coil success and seeing racers running the same setup. Can't take credit as a friend who worked for Honda engineering clued me in - he'd been doing it on turbo Honda for awhile. Wonder if it would work on our cars - how long is the overall length?

your on proefi. 210 mj high output proefi coils. done
And I'll likely skip them for the same reason I researched alternatives on the Supra - cost. IF I need higher output coils I'll cross that bridge but I'm hoping a good set of OEM coils are all I need. Oh and I hate plug wires! Lol

sean hasn't had any issues as of yet. i found a new set of the mega coils for 300 less than retail so i grabbed them!
Yeah, that's funny...it's true the marine environment is pretty much the most horrible thing I have put a motor through. I would spend many hours after each time taking the boat out to leave everything absolutely spotless for the next outing. Salt water is not very friendly stuff to an engine Also, the motor runs at steady state with high load vs a street car that cruises in comparison. I have not heard of too many issues on 996TT regarding coil packs. Thankfully
Here is one of the 300xs coils, as you can see it is remote in that it uses a small piece of spark plug wire in between....
(Sorry for OT btw VGLNTE1)

Just wanted to update with a side by side comparison view of the Genuine plug from our current project 996 Turbo and the updated Beru coil. It is indeed a design change of the bracket.
That being said if you guys have any suggestions for common issues that you see with the 996 Turbo that you'd want us to write a tech article on please let me know.

I will add that I bought the new style and it said to order the new longer bolts. When I received the new coils, they had the longer bolts in the box.
hell, I don't even know. They are Beru I think. The site said to add the bolts to the list as I would need them, so I bought the bolts for no reason.
I'm assuming you ordered them from us? Yes, the plugs do come with the bolts. I will inform our catalog staff to update the listing from saying "uses 6 X 40 mm hold down bolts" to "includes 6 X 40 mm hold down bolts." I apologize for the inconvenience and if you PM me your order number I will assist you with getting this resolved.

your customer service has been amazing over the times ive used you. Im not sweating the 9$ or whatever it was for bolts. Chances are I will use them for something else. Just wanted to state, if you buy the new ones, the bolts come with it.
