i understand perfectly both "crash" as well as 32krzy's points, and they are both well taken, and i'm gonna be looking into these more seriously.

either that or doing the "smarter" thing which is probably just "plain ol bilstein" dampers with springs like porsches have been running just fine for decades.

i dont buy the hype. i'm a believer in the "driver" and not the "coilover".. but what do i know.

i have never driven on stock suspension so I'm guessing here. what i see is stock has a softer more "touring" feel than true coilovers which can have different springs geared towards the drivers needs. some are also rebuildable which i find very appealing considering the cost.

;agree, that's really what they built it for i guess, = grand touring, but then look at what a FEW K and an enterprising guy like yourself can do with the platform! i don't believe that was on their original drawing board, either! lol. so "take it, to the limit one more time".

It just depends on what you expect. I bought a set of very low mileage BCs just as a place holder because my stock stuff was crap IMO might have been blown out even. But they have actually been a big improvement and I have run some pretty good times with them, I paid 600.00. And have since just left them on . On the race car I spent closer to 7k and its worth every penny because I'm looking for 10ths of a second.

s65e90 is infamous around these parts
I was in the same boat as the stock setup with the top mounts and bearings is JUNK. I was taking the car on a 3k mile roadtrip and needed a replacement ASAP. I purchased d2 coilovers for a few reasons. They are sold from a US distributor, warrantied, and rebuildable in the USA.
The best thing is that they use pillowball upper mounts front and rear, with the front being camber adjustable (not easily) which eliminates the super ****ty OEM top mount that most expensive coils still require you to use or to purchase camber plates in addition, thus +++ to the cost.

I have been very happy with these coils. Ride is good, they are real stiff, but still ride nice. I live in FL so don't get to see a ton of bad roads, but I drove the car from FL to NY with zero issues and they work great for what they are. Also, the dampening is easily adjustable.

For @ $1,500, not a bad deal. D2 seems to have quite a few overseas race cars using them also.

The Ksports, D2 seem to be the same. BC look okay, but DO NOT come with top mounts so factor that cost in also.

The price point a company sets is typically controlled by two things. The price that they believe the customer is willing to pay and how many units they expect to sell. While the 3rd Gen RX-7 might only just beat out the 996TT for production numbers, I would assume that suspension manufacturers believed that they would sell alot more units to the 7 crowd than they would the 996TT. Of course, manufacturing costs also play into it as well. If a setup has a lot of the same parts as one for another car, it is easier to justify putting it on the market for a lower price point even if you know you might not sell a lot of units.

I have K-Sports and like them, although it took a long time to find the "sweet spot" between compression and rebound dampening. Now that I have found that, I believe the springs are too soft. I am going to start raising the spring rates.

I ended up getting a good deal on some used Techart vario coilovers. I will be using these with Tarret front mounts and will probably also add adjustable sways-front and rear. Although there was limited info on these, I could'nt find a bad word against them on the forums. At least if I have an issue, the Bilstein PSS9 based Techarts are easily rebuilt in Australia.
Thanks for all your responses guys, lots of interesting opinions out there.
